Diesel engine disaster 22 Oct 2006 (Forum)
On Friday they told me that all the sensors and controls are working properly but they think there has been a problem with contamination of the diesel system, due to either water or petrol getting into the diesel. I am informed that this is not covered by the warranty and that the repair will be costed at ten hours of labour, plus necessary new parts, megabucks in other words. -

Diesel reliability HDI technology 29 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Having read the many post on the tales & woes of diesel I can understand how some are disilutioned. I do however wonder how many people have made the transition from petrol to diesel without any real understanding or knoledge of a diesel engine. I have run loads of CRI vehicles including the infamous 2.0tdci to very high milage without any problems at all. -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 2.2 TDCi (05) - EGR valve? 12 Sep 2007 (Forum)
The ST TDCi has suddenly started emitting blue smoke on start up and missing badly under engine load (esp 2-3K rpm). I'll confess to using supermarket fuel but, in my defence: it could be a bad batch as it started straight after filling up on Thursday and it's run fine for the past 11 months, there is a dearth of Shell/Esso/BP stations in this area that are convenient for me to use, and all my handbook says is 'use fuel that meets EN590' which I presumed was a standard specifictation, and don't use bio diesel. -
Renault Scenic (2003 - 2009) - 05 1.6 diesel. fails start in cold/starting probs 9 Feb 2010 (Forum)
After no start today was hauled back to garage today, they wonder if air in system/ but have also suggested supermarket fuel may be to blame - but last fillup was 30litres of Shell Diesel after which we did 125 miles fine! Currently at injector specialist being looked into. Can anyone offer some helpful comments? -

Cheap but Safe 4 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Main thing is that it's safe, as she has just found out she's pregnant. It also needs to be reasonably economical (diesel or petrol is fine) and cheap to run. Just looking at a couple of second hand car supermarkets, it looks like you can pick up and old astra/vectra/focus/mondeo for somewhere near £3k, but all have mileage around the 80k+ mark and most are about 5 years old. -
Toyota RAV-4 (2006 - ) - RAV-4 SR180 - impressed. 1 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Too many of these class of cars feel disconnected, but this one doesnt at all, it encourages confidence. But the best praise should go to the 2.2 diesel engine, the best four-pot diesel I've experienced. I owned a 120d but the Toyota engine seems a generation ahead. So smooth responsive and very refined, no lumpy torque delivery or snappyness from the transmission. -
