  • Skoda Octavia vRS (2001-2005) 19 Jun 2016 (News)
The 15 year old model we drove felt well built inside with a nice heavy thunk from the doors while all the buttons and controls still worked. There are plenty of 15 year old cars for which you can’t say the same.
  • Heroes: Stanley Mann 11 Feb 2016 (News)
Soon, however, Stanley realised that the true attraction of these cars lay in their remarkable durability. This led to a switch of focus to ensure, as far as was practical, that the original integrity of the car was preserved. Indeed, he made a virtue out of racing original cars and was successful at tracks such as Silverstone, Donington Park, Mallory Park, Montlhery, Nurburgring and Le Mans.

We’ve put a filter on so only models of which more than 5000 were tested appear, to filter out rare cars or particularly old models.
  • Used car values down 14 Jun 2011 (News)
The used car marketplace is in decline, with an abundance of poor quality stock and low buyer confidence cited as the main reasons, according to CAP. The average used car value (at three years old with 60,000 miles) dropped by 4.6% in May 2011, and it’s predicted to drop by 3.8% in June.
  • A Grand Monday: Austin Maestro 1.6L 27 Nov 2017 (News)
She then sold it to a chap who owned it for 31 years, and who ensured it remained road legal during that time. The buyer admits that the car isn't perfect, but it's pretty tidy for a 34-year old Maestro - a car that wasn't renowned for its rust-resilience even when new. A life spent in London has probaby helped, as the MoT history shows it has only covered 8000 miles in the past decade, very little of which will have been on salty motorways.
  • Lord Mountbatten’s Rolls for sale 14 Mar 2016 (News)
It reappeared after an Oxford dental surgeon, Captain Ralph Symmons, purchased the Silver Ghost in the South of France. He returned home with the motor car, removed the French number plates, and made an incredible discovery – a London registration that traced the Silver Ghost back to Lord Mountbatten’s ownership. Captain Symmons restored the Rolls-Royce, which had survived in remarkably original condition, and after its completion drove the car to Lord Mountbatten's home at Broadlands in Hampshire, where its first owner was reintroduced to his old car.

  • Top 10: Car-derived commercials 3 Oct 2014 (News)
Creating a van or pick-up from a passenger-carrying car isn’t exactly a new concept. In fact, it’s probably as old as the motor car itself. For obvious reasons, however, such vehicles tend to be relatively rare in terms of their survival rate; after all, a commercial vehicle bought to work hard for a living is unlikely to last as long as a privately owned car that’s cared for, serviced and probably even washed and polished from time to time.
  • A Grand Monday: Saab 900 XS 10 Jul 2017 (News)
Clean, well-preserved and in far better condition than its odometer reading of 226,000 miles would suggest. But then, these old 900s are like that. They hark from an era where Swedish cars were built to survive. While the rest of the world was churning out mass produced family saloons and replacing them every four or five years with a new model, the policy of both Swedish manufacturers, Saab and Volvo, was one of continual evolution and improvement.

Under the scheme, the 1.4 Active, which normally costs £9,650 OTR, already benefits from a £1,000 rebate from the Treasury for motorists scrapping their old car in exchange for a new one. It was also attracting a Fiat offer of £1,655 on top, which has now been increased to £1,955. • Classic cars set for MoT exemption 16 May 2018 (News)
From 20 May, 40-year-old cars will no longer be required to pass an annual roadworthiness test. This raises plenty of questions and there’s no doubt the move has its critics. Not least the people who took part in the consultation – the majority of drivers thought exempting older cars from the MoT test was a bad idea.   This all started in 2012 when the Government decided to exempt pre-1960 cars from the MoT test.
