  • Ford Bantam LDV (based on Mk 4 Fiesta) - Radiator fan comes on when glow plugs go out 10 Oct 2015 (Forum)
Hi, I am new to the forum and have a problem with my Ford Bantam LDV. It has the Endura DE diesel motor and was running nicely when all of a sudden it became sluggish to start. I replaced the fuel lines to ensure that there is no air in the system, and also replaced the glow plugs. The motor then fired up immediately, but I then saw on a voltmeter that I had fitted on the glow plugs lead that the glow plugs do not switch off, and that the wiring to the glow plugs is getting very hot and starting to melt the insulation!
  • Peugeot Boxer Sevel X250 2.2l - Bad starting 7 May 2015 (Forum)
If I park it the other way round it starts on the first turn of the key. It seems to me, and I'm no expert, to be fuel related and I would be interested to hear from anyone with any thoughts on the problem.
  • what to buy! 2 Jun 2014 (Forum)
I would also prefer something with a bit of ground clearance as I live on a mountain up a badly maintained road with a lot of overhanging trees - my old Meganne acted like a snow plough sometimes. But don't need a 4x4 as I just don't venture out in bad weather! Diesel is out of the question as I don't do enough miles and I work from home so not that worried about super fuel economy either. With that sort of money I'm not a looks or brand snob either! I love the Jeep Cherokee but my OH says I should stick with something sensible!!

  • Ford Fiesta Van 1996 1.8D - kangaroo juice 2 Nov 2012 (Forum)
Its years since I had to do my own repairs and so am a bit rusty although I never did have much to do with diesels, so we are looking at the 1996 fiesta 1.8D It has suddenly developed a problem as if we have some kangaroo juice in her, I have done the obvious by changing the fuel filter but it has not made any difference.
  • Renault - Lack of Torque 27 Sep 2011 (Forum)
If I wanted to save trees etc I'd walk everywhere. I don't so I drive. If I wanted a car that had no torque and s***ty fuel economy then I'd buy a s***ty little 1 litre petrol car with 50bhp and less than 100lb/ft of torque not a 110bhp diesel that can develop 200+ lb/ft torque. STOP trying to make regular cars Eco friendly and let those of us who want to drive drive and let the tree huggers walk everywhere and eat veggies.
  • Ford Escort (1993 - 2000) - 98 1.8d very poor starter......tried everything!!! 21 Feb 2009 (Forum)

Has anyone please got any other suggestions (apart from setting fire to it!). Any help greatly appreciated.
  • Ford Escort (1993 - 2000) - 1998 TD - really bad MPG!! 21 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Evening all, and merry christmas. Last week I put around 45 litres of diesel in the tank, that was as much as it would take (wet shoes) and 350 miles later I'm on the red again. I just drove from Bristol to Taunton and back, 120 miles all round, and I could actually see the needle dropping as I was driving.
  • 320cd / 330cd convertible questions.... 7 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Should I replace any worn tyres with normal rather than run flats ? And how long roughly do tyres last ? Do BMW diesel engines sound as rough as other manufacturers engines (not been on a test drive) ? Any other information would be great, have been reading many threads over the last hour, but not my questions have been covered.
  • Ford Focus dies for a second! 26 Oct 2006 (Forum)
the Ford garage did suggest fuel pump 'may' be the problem, but at £1200 to replace, i'd like to think not! I would have thought that if that was causing it i would have had more problems since, to date 5 weeks have passed without a hiccup.
  • Nissan X-trail - stuttering 3 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Whilst it is frustrating for us if they cannot find any faults, I do appreciate it can be difficult for them to trace. It's just sod's law if they drive it and the engine decides to play up. The engine is a diesel and we are following HJ's running in guidance. Thanks. SVM
  • Citroen C3 opinion 28 Jul 2005 (Forum)
I love: The high seating position The nice big buttons The intuitive controls The looks I like: The boot, which is fairly big given the size of the car The fuel economy, which at 37mpg around town is OK. A diesel C3 would have been at least £1,000 more expensive. I'm less pleased with: The gearstick, which is too low The fact that you select settings e.g. black panel with lights on and it resets itself.
  • Problems with Rover 75 6 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Would this be the timing chain or something else less serious...Rover dealer did say it could be a fuel issue as they havent heard of chains needing replacing and its had 5K oil changes. Car is 1999 Diesel with 210,000 on the clock! Any ideas would be great!
  • Audi TDI 110 Decline 9 Jun 2004 (Forum)
I run a 97 A4 1.9 TDi SE 110.I purchased the car approx 3 years ago,its mileage was 96k.Its given sterling service with plenty of poke and superb economy since. However in the past few weeks I have noticed the car to be well down on power and torque to what it once was.The mileage is now 165k and since I have owned the car it has had 5k synthetic oil changes and doesn`t use any oil to this date.It also has regular air filter replacement the last one just days ago.It has had regular use of diesel power plus fuel addative and regular italian tune ups. There does however seem to be the beginnings of an oil leak at the front of the engine in the area of the camshaft end/rocker cover and the car has become a bit smokey of late. The question is what could be the cause of the recent decline in performance?
  • 306 hdi starting problems 18 Jan 2004 (Forum)
The car could take from 1 to 7 attempts to start it,Once or twice a day but some days fine.Initally they could not find anything wrong. They took it in twice again replaced the imobiliser ariel unit and control unit. Before christmas they took it in again and replaced both units again. We went to collect it and it would not start at all. They then replaced the diesel tank lift(I think they mean fuel pump).Car started ok for two and a half weeks then same starting fault occured.engine turns over well but makes no attempt at starting.then can be fine, makes no diference hot or cold starts.Due to go back to main dealer for its usuall holiday.only two months warranty left does any one know what could be causing this problem, fault codes on peugeot computer inconclusive says clutch is being ridden this is rubbish,I have no confidence in this computer.
  • Mercedes E-Class W211 17 May 2003 (Forum)
Having had my pride and joy for nearly six months now someone spotted what looked like oil streaks running away from underneath this morning. I popped up to the dealers and they took it straight round put it on the ramps and said the fuel filter was leaking diesel and there was an oil leak that was dripping onto a coolant pipe and had damaged the pipe to the point where it was about to rupture. They have given me another E-Class to get around in but I can't believe that if someone hadn't spotted the oil I may well have had a ruptured coolant pipe to deal with.
  • Any car suggestions?...... 26 Jun 2002 (Forum)
I have a very loose budget (up to £15k, lower the better) to spend on a new or second hand car and fuel expenses will be claimed back from the boss. The devil on my shoulder is telling me to go mad for once in my life and get the hot rod I never had in my twenties (I'm 33). However the better side of my nature is telling me to buy something cheap (used Vectra), reliable (Honda), image enhancing (BMW, Merc) and diesel.
  • BMW 5-Series E60 (2003 - 2009) - 2006 2.0 Non existent Diagnostics 22 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Hi all My diesel 520 failed to start after a boxing day shopping trip. The iDrive was reporting fuel pump failure then cruise control failure, then reported it was launching some kind of Start Assist program. Upon pressing the start button the engine was attempting to turn but was not firing.
  • Jaguar S-Type (1999 - 2007) - Long term running report on an 04 diesel auto. 1 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Phoned Jaguar Assist & they had someone out in 90 minutes, he took me to Calais where Jaguar Assist had got me a booking (I was on the tunnel originally) & they had me collected in Dover & taken home all at no cost. In the morning I collected our jerrycans & by ppulling a pipe off the diesel filter drained the tank completely & then refilled with diesel. A local factors had a filter in stock & it started after some cranking & has never seemed to be any the worse for it! Fuel consumption whilst we?
  • Is there extremely reliable used car under 10k gbp 8 Dec 2020 (Forum)
my other concern is Car to  have great or extremely good rust protection, and i would love to have at least distronic so automatic cruise control i love manual gearbox, since automatic gear box are slugish but if there isnt any other option i would accept it also i dont think i will be able to pay for more than 200hp taxes fuel consumption so its very limited options,   about diesel vs petrol dillemma i dont know if there is a decent , recent diesel which can last forever compared to old ones so i do think petrol is more reliable..
