  • Brake Failure 2 Oct 2001 (Forum)
I had a wonderful weekend. Driving down from Cheshire to London I noticed round Stoke that my brakes felt a little odd. Pulled off the main road, looked underneath the car and could find no obvious leaks - checked the brakes a good few times more and everything seemed okay again. Was careful on the motorway because of the earlier problems but about 100 miles further while on the M1, the traffic braked in front of me and my brake pedal went to the floor.
  • Mazda 6 - Warning lights 7 Nov 2024 (Forum)
My son’s Mazda 6 failed its Mot yesterday for an SRS (ie airbags etc) warning and a braking one. Amazingly the main dealer (who didn’t do the MoT)  accepted a booking for today and resolved these faults. The service desk says it was slightly low brake fluid and that set off the brake warning and that the SRS one was not live but due to a previous code saved by the system and representing when the brake one came up,  Maybe he or the receptionist have the wrong end of the stick but it sounds unlikely to me.
  • Hyundai i20 Coupe - I20 2015 Coupe high level brake light removal 1 Jun 2021 (Forum)
Hi There is water the the high level brake light of our car. This is the three door version so I think it’s slightly different to the 5 door. It is mounted within the spoiler. I can’t see how to remove this brake light to inspect. There is a hole with a plastic latch or clip on the underside but I don’t want to break it poking around without knowing the proper methods.
  • Honda CR-V 2014 Petrol Automatic - Brake squeal and grind noise 20 Jul 2016 (Forum)
I bought and now have had my Petrol 2014 automatic Honda CR-V for two weeks. But I've now noticed the brakes are making a grinding and squeal noise when I'm braking, the car has 18500 miles I just wondered if anyone has had this experience.? I've booked it in at a Honda dealer to have a look at. But wanted to know if the grind noise was normal for the CR-V?
  • Braking with a TC auto gearbox 29 Nov 2015 (Forum)
[endif]--> My small car with a torque convertor auto gearbox needed new front discs and pads a lot sooner than I expected. I've wondered if that's because I use the brakes to slow the car when I'm going downhill, rather than putting the car into a lower gear and using engine braking. I'm reluctant to use the latter because I don't understand the long term consequences for the gearbox of doing it.
  • brake pipes - Astra 7 Jun 2015 (Forum)
first time, the garage guy said you want the good news or bad, before my joyous mood expires, he gave me some advice on some of the car niggles, the metal pipes on the brake is rusted up, the handbrake needs adjusting, god knows how to adjust it,one of the rubber bush needs replacing, and thats it also it needs a lick of underseal, my question why the hell vauxhall make metal pipes for the brakes, why not plastic or rubber..
  • Hyundai Tucson - Brakes operate without pedal 7 Feb 2015 (Forum)
Hi, My 2005 Tucson brakes can operate via the ABS without pressing the pedal. This can happen when the key is turned or driving down the road. ABS light turns on, then TCS OFF light, then 4WD SYSTEM WARNING light. When all 3 lights are on the ABS is disabled and the car drives well, the intermittent brake operation no longer happens.

I am about to travel to Cornwall and wondered if I needed to get the brakes pads replaced. Thanks Elisabeth

  • Peugeot 107 - Clunking Brakes on my Peugeot 11 Jun 2011 (Forum)
I just bought a second hand Peugeot 107, 06 reg plate. It makes a clunking noise when I brake gently, but only when the car has been drive for about 15 minutes and has been warmed up. I have just had new brakes and discs fitted yet they still make a noise. The garage also cannot find what’s wrong with it.
  • Audi A4 B7 avant - mintex brake pads 8 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Need to replace the rear brake pads on my car? Seen some mintex ones on sale at a good price at local motor factors but they appear to be 'tapered' till halt way through the thickness. Will this initial top 50% of the pads have the same stopping power as other makes of brake pad or less until they wear down to the 'thicker' part?
  • VW Passat - Passat Brakes 3 Aug 2010 (Forum)
Have followed the Haynes manual and all guide pins, clamp bolts and wheel bolts are torqued correctly. The brakes seem to be doing their job and stopping the car as they should but when travelling slowly and applying slight pressure to the brakes there is a 'clunking' sound from each front wheel, it only happens once each time the pedal is pressed.
  • Skoda Octavia 2.0l SLX Estate (51) - No brake lighs at all on my Skoda 30 Jul 2010 (Forum)
The other day i found that all 3 of my brake lights have stopped working, i've done the usal checks, Fuse, bulbs. No other lights are affected - Indicators, reverse, fog, side lights all work. Find it strange how its just the brake lights that have failed.

  • Citroen C3 (2002 - 2009) - 05 1.4 C3 brakes 1 Nov 2009 (Forum)
My son has a problem with the brakes on a Citroen C3. They were dragging and overheating on a run. He has replaced the front discs and pads. After adjusting the rear shoes the brakes were still dragging so he attempted to bleed the system by pressurising the master cylinder but could not get any fluid out of the bleed nipples, front or back.
  • Renault Clio II (2001 - 2007) - 04 1.5DCI 'Brake Judder' 20 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Hi, I have a 2004 Renault Clio 1.5 DCI. when I brake at any speed in excess of roughly 40 MPH I can feel quite a severe ' judder' through the brake pedal, I have had the discs and pads replaced, and had the N/S wheel bearing replaced (because there was a bit of wear in it) but the problem persists, the car has ABS.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 99 1.8 Faulty brake light 28 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Hi Hope somebody can help After checking all my lights i noticed that the centre brake light on my 1999 Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec wont work. • Peugeot 205 (1983 - 1997) - 1994 1.8 diesel - Brake? noise 27 Jan 2009 (Forum)
My Non Turbo Diesel 205 has a noise from the front Brakes. I replaced the calipers 2-3 months ago and now after about 10 miles, when going in a straight line they sort of whistle. If I just touch the brakes or turn the steering wheel a little in either direction it stops.
  • Land Rover Defender (1946 - ) - 1987 2.5 Transmission Brake 20 Dec 2008 (Forum)
My transmission brake has seized on. In the last week the brake has seized on a few times but came off after moving my 90 back and forward. This time it has stayed on and will not come off. The handbrake cable and linkage appear to be working ok and the problem appears to be inside the drum.
  • MOT standards... 31 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Variation on "leaky dampers": Dox wrote: >> Springs, dampers, and braking components should always be changed in >> axle pairs. >> MOT standards should be maintained 365 days a year, not just the day of the test. MOT standards are quite low. You can, perfectly legitimately, replace a damper, a spring, a brake pad, a disc or even a brake shoe, a brake pipe, a hose, a tyre, calipher, seal, cylinder, bearing, or a ball joint, bush, or whatnot, and still expect your car to pass the MOT test.
