No such thing as a bad new car? 31 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Mini with CVT transmision (Note: I am knocking the CVT version only) It's jerky, has little standing start acceleration, can be really thristy (under 20 mpg) and must be the only automatic that feels like it's going to stall! Now I know that I might upset some people, but I really do think that these two models were completely underdeveloped. -
Golf V5 auto judder 26 Feb 2003 (Forum)
I've got a Golf V5 170bhp with tiptronic transmission thats just over 1 year old and has done 11000 miles. Over the past week or so I've noticed that when accelerating briskly in automatic mode there is a perceptible judder and hesitation as the gearbox shifts into 4th and 5th gears.Once it's changed up the car drives smoothly. It feels as if perhaps the the auto box is trying to change up too quickly. -
Airbags, Seat Belts & Steering Wheels 12 Feb 2003 (Forum)
s=&threadid=8965 I\'ll leave this here because I think its important. However, I have changed the link so that it won\'t work automatically, you will have to cut and paste it to your browser and I would emphasise the warning that Dave gave to the squeamish etc. Mark. Too many bhp 10 Jan 2003 (Forum)
I thought I'd share my recent experience to see if other drivers have suffered similar incidents. I was driving a Vauxhall Omega saloon, 3.0L automatic, rear wheel drive. The road was wet but thankfully empty. I was accelerating up to speed on the motorway with only a slight left hand curve to the road. The rear of the car started to slide at 50 mph'ish and then the car started weaving violently from side to side. -
Volvo 850 22 Nov 2002 (Forum)
I plan to replace it with something a lot cheaper that I will be able to keep for a long time. I also want an automatic, & mpg isn't an issue as I only do about 6k a year. Much research seems to point to a 1995/96 Volvo 850, as I fancy an estate from a long-term practicality point of view. I did consider a 1998 Passat & the Volvo V40, but the scary reliability stories put me off. -
MOT - Suzuki Swift 31 Oct 2002 (Forum)
It isn't blowing, so does this therefore mean that it won't fail the MOT on this point, or is that an automatic failure point. I tackled the garage where I bought it from about this back in September, and they assured me that the white stuff would soon "burn off" and that it was a newish downpipe. I had my doubts, but went ahead and bought it because otherwise it is in excellent condition. -
Synergie/806 cooling system 28 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Am I right in assuming that as I refill it these will allow the air to escape up through the header and in effect automatically bleed it as it fills? Any other refilling without airlocks hints? Sorry if this is painfully obvious, I otherwise drive a 1957 Landrover S1 so the Synergie seems incredibly complex by comparison! -
Buying a VW Vento 9 Aug 2002 (Forum)
Can anyone give me some advice on buying a VW Vento 1.8 CL AUTOMATIC. Its a replacement for my nan's 1987 Nissan Sunny Auto that has been so reliable. She has a £1500 limit and Insurance cost is important. The cars that match her size and insurance requirements are Vento, Rover 416 & Astra Saloon, all Autos. -
returned e-mail 28 Dec 2001 (Forum)
The thing is I haven't sent any of them. Most of them seem to have been taken from my address book which automatically places them there when I return a e-mail. The message I have supposedly sent is all gobbledy gook and not understandable. Among them may be some of the people who visit this site who I have spoken to by e-mail. -
Is this a fair price 14 Dec 2001 (Forum)
Having read these pages for some days now, I get a feel that there are many knowledgeable people out there so: I have been offered an early L reg Renault Clio, with less than 11,000 miles (no typing error, eleven) on the clock. It has been serviced, garaged and driven gently for its whole life. It is a five door, 1.4 RN automatic. Taxed until June, just serviced and MOT'd. It has a small srape on a rear door and the front dam beneath the bumper is scored/scraped. I Have been offered this car for £1350.00 is this a good deal? -

New Buyers Help 14 Mar 2012 (Forum)
I'd rather spend 15-20K and get something decent. Part of the problem is that we need a automatic gearbox (the wife cant drive stick) and in France you are looking at 10,000 first price for something decent. What I really want is a small-medium MPV/Crossover AUTO, but again the good ones start at 15K (with a automatic gearbox). -
Speeding (mostly excl cameras) Vol 46 6 Sep 2006 (Forum)
If it was me, then I'm prepared to take it on the chin. The NIP says that photographic evidence will automatically be produced to backup the prosecution (is this new? it wasn't the case when I was done 8 months ago in Milton Keynes). I have no idea what type of cameras are used in Oxford, but on the assumption they're GATSO's then this evidence would be taken from behind and would purely prove the speed of the car rather than who was driving - correct? -
Nissan Qashqai - Nissan qashqai crackling as initially pulling away 28 Apr 2025 (Forum)
Hi, Hope everyone is well? New here and tried searching for an answer but couldn’t find one. My 2011 Qashqai (automatic) makes a crackling noise when pulling away after sitting overnight or for a long period. Once I’m a few minutes down the road the noise disappears and won’t return until the next time I drive the car after a while. -

Suggestions for a small-mid sized SUV? 20 Oct 2023 (Forum)
I would prefer it to be raised more than a standard hatchback but should a deal come up then I may forfeit the higher driving position. The car will be 2020 or later and it will likely be an automatic. Can I ask for your opinion on these cars. Are any of these known for having problems, design faults? Is any more recommended over the others. Thanks. -

Hyundai Kona - New Small SUV 4 Aug 2020 (Forum)
My parents with mobility issues need to be able to get in & out. Manual, Petrol although with a dodgy left arm not ruling out automatic. Will mainly be doing about town driving 2 or 3 times a week, with once a week trip of approx 25miles on a fast A road. & occasional 250mile trips. Would be interested in thoughts on the pros & cons of Hybrid - Thank you!
