  • Basic Service - Skoda Favorit GLXie 3 Aug 2005 (Forum)
I want to do a "basics" service on my Skoda Favorit (1995 GLXie), hopefully so it runs a bit better (is not too bad) and better fuel economy etc. I'm planning to do: (1) Oil and filter (hasn't been done for a year/10000miles) (2) Spark plugs, Ignition leads, distributor cap and rotor arm (never done in three years I have had it but I can see sparks in dark garage on leads) (3) Fuel filter and air filter (did air filter 18months ago, never done fuel) Is there anything else should be done?
  • mondeo mk3 tddi high fuel consumption 2 Mar 2005 (Forum)
hi, can anyone help? i have just purchased a 2001 mondeo tddi 2.0l zetec(60,000miles) and am getting really bad fuel consumption, ie, 26 mpg around town, this has been consistant for 4 weeks and i have been driving like a sunday driver (im not a boy racer) the garage have done a diognostic test which did not show any engine faults, but the oil level was 1/2l above max, the mechanic said this could be the problem so he drained it out, also the air flow sensor was unplugged (i noticed this about three weeks ago) so i plugged it back in but there was no noticable difference to the engine running when i did so, have i bought a pig in a sack???
  • Astra 1.7TD 1998 - Fuel leak 7 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Hi, Just got back from a shopping trip and noticed my car smelling strongly of diesel. Opened the bonnet to find fuel all over the engine bay. On turning the key, it is spraying out of one of the glow-plug housings. The last (or first depending on how you look at it!) glow plug has only one line into it, whereas all the others have (I assume) an in and out feed.

  • Noisy Fuel Pump - Renault 5 26 Mar 2004 (Forum)
It sounds like what I would expect a pump to sound like when spooling down. Having a look around I\'m pretty sure that it\'s the fuel pump. If this is the case are these early symptoms that it might be on it\'s way out? (there has been no noticeable change in performance or efficiency) I just want to know if I should think about replacing it.
  • Saxo fuel filter 30 Dec 2001 (Forum)
Oil & filter no probs, air filter a breeze and even fitted new glow plugs which cured the sluggish starting. The service also calls for a new fuel filter. This looks an absolute pig to get to, so before I splash out on a new one, is it easier than it looks to remove without causing permanant wrist damage and will the system need bleeding after replacement?
  • Citroen Xantia 18 Aug 2001 (Forum)
Hot starting problems Car is hesitant to start when cold, but can be very difficult when hot (has been known to power up hydraulic system before starting, but has not yet failed to start) Been into Citroen specialist who has checked no leak from fuel pipe under bonnet and checked out fuel pump, injectors, etc. and fuel supply to them. He has suggested next step to have cylinder head off to check swirl chambers as lining may be cracked, but this will cost around £400 plus any repairs to swirl chambers, bit expnsive!

Has any one experience of intermittent fuel cut out problems? Possibly related to tight RH cornering eg Roundabouts or uphill use. It always restarts straight away. I have tried obvious eg fuel tank level, fuel tank vacuum etc but nothing proven.
  • My question to an MP regarding Bio-diesel - Reply! 4 Feb 2011 (Forum)
Biodiesel has a lower flash point than conventional diesel fuel, and when extra fuel is injected to produce the temperatures required to regenerate the DPF the ‘bio’ element of the fuel is left behind unburnt in the engine, gradually increasing the engine oil level to the point where the car ‘self-fuels’, i.e. burns its own oil, rather than fuel from the tank.

  • Air Con v Climate Control 20 Jul 2018 (Forum)
My Toyota has air con, when you switch it on you can hear the revs on the engine rise. I am not sure of increased fuel economy as I only owned it for a short whille My Alfa has climate control, when switched on there is no rise in revs, it does not seem to effect the fuel economy, which is not good anyway. Do they work differently?
