Main dealer import nightmare 6 Jan 2004 (Forum)
The car is a Y reg TD5 ES (Registered July 2001) spec car which I paid 27,100 pounds for, the price included the remainder of the 3 yr/60k manufacturer's warranty (as written on the sale ticket). This provided warranty cover for me until July 2004....or so I was led to believe at the time. -
Nissan X-Trail (2007 - ) - J D power 2009 xtrail 14 Jun 2009 (Forum)
I have ALWAYS found this survey to mirror my own experience or near enough not to want to discuss it. That is until the latest issue of what car dropped on the door step. The survey covers cars registered from jan 2006 to dec 2007. Now i would of thought that that period covered most of the old x trail, the new one was available from spring 2007. -
Renault grand scenic - car supermarkets 31 Aug 2015 (Forum)
After buying cars and selling for over 15 years the bottom line is always you get what you pay for and main dealer 1-3 yr old cars are the best to get on finance. -
Buying a car question from newbie 26 Apr 2012 (Forum)
Find the car I want, buy it before 29/5/2012 with help from a friend who can drive it home for me. Keep it there until I get the license. 3. Buy a car when I have the license. Also a question regarding insurance: once I have purchased the insurance online, am I allowed to drive straightaway or I'll have to wait until they send me the cover note? -
ford c-MAX 2.0 tdci iv ghia - soot and oil on caravan 24 Aug 2010 (Forum)
The car has been to a few garages and all have looked at the car checked the emisions and test drove the car and said there is nothing wrong, but it is now impossible to tow the caravan. In recent months when using the car with a full load I have noticed a clear oil on the back of the car. -
2016 Peugeot 308 1.2 THP - Engine cutting out dangerously when driving 19 Apr 2017 (Forum)
No faults show up on the cars computer listings. So far Peugeot have carried out an ECU and gearbox update and next are to fit a new petrol pump. I have been without the car for 7 days which include an aborted trip to Calais and the courtesy car they tell me does not cover me in France. -
Jaguar X-Type - Is Warranty still valid 12 Jul 2010 (Forum)
I bought a used Jaguar X type just under 3 months ago and I was given a 3 month warranty with it. The Clutch on the car has now failed which is covered by the warranty however the garage are saying that they cannot do the work under warranty because the car has done more than 3000 miles since I bought it. The warranty schedule that I was given and signed says '3 months from the date of sale shown in this schedule or 3000 miles from the mileage shown in this schedule' The date of sale has been written on the schedule and it is less than 3 months since I bought the car, however the mileage that the car had done when I bought the car has not written on the schedule. -
Volkswagen Beetle (1998 - ) - do I need to disconnect battery whilst charging ? 30 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Can't say I've ever disconnected the battery from the car before? Presumably this would result in the ECU resetting itself, needing to dig out the code for the radio etc. Is it really necessary to disconnect the battery from the car, or is this just the manufacturer trying to cover their backs? -
MINI MINI One D R50 (2003 - 2007) - Buying an ex - driving instructor's car 7 Aug 2008 (Forum)
It is 06 reg and has done 65k miles (averaging more than 30k a year). The sales person assured me that the car is in pristine condition with any worn parts all replaced and they will be giving the 12 months warranty and MOT cover under the MINI cherished scheme. My question is that should I stay away from this car seeing that it must be treated harshly by the learner drivers (Or is this a misconception)? -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - HDi: Help - knocking sound from cold 11 Sep 2007 (Forum)
The car has done 50 000 miles or so and as far as we know, has not had the cambelt changed. My fear is that the garage will be uncertain and we'll be faced with the choice of either taking the car and worrying about it, or taking the "other" car, with all the hassle of changing the ferry booking/breakdown cover etc etc. -
Car insurance - your opinions sought 15 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Do you stick with the same company year after year or always look for the best deal? What is most important to you - lowest price or level of cover? What would be the best way of buying car insurance in your opinion? Any suggestions appreciated! Many thanks and I look forward to hearing from you. -
Firework damage to car - neigbour to pa? 19 Jan 2006 (Forum)
This is going to have to be repaired, and on her 18mth old metallic black car, it aint going to be cheap. There's no doubt in my mind that the damage was caused by a rocket, several of which landed amongst our cars after a neighbours Nov 5th party. I still have the offending items and they fit the dent perfectly, and explain why the paint in the dent is undamaged (although a surprising dent from a cardboard tube). -
DIY-Proof Cars 14 Sep 2005 (Forum)
I've just given up trying to change the oil on my Fiat Multiwagon, having discovered that my new Halfords wrench for removing the drain plug wont't fit (this has nine heads and 'fits most cars'). I've also found that it is impossible to replace any of the front bulbs myself, as the battery blocks access on one side, and the washer fluid bottle on the other, and have been unable to help with jump starting a neighbour's car due to my battery being boxed in by a cover attached by star screws, which I couldn't remove without the appropriate tool. -
A weekend Car 22 Jun 2005 (Forum)
He used to do 60 miles per day to work and back, he now does 50 yards by foot during the week and a few miles at weekends. His Escort is dying so he has had the idea of getting a weekend car for less than £10k. He initially thought about an American muscle car such as a Mustang as he likes the noise of a a V8 (!) but budget and other factors may prohibit. We then went on to discuss other vehicles which may offer him something different and covered all angles - V8 Rovers, Supras, Skylines, Jaguars, Bentley, Westfield, Porsche etc. -
Do you remove your radio front 30 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Have I missed anything? For what it's worth my radio front is in the house now but my car is parked overnight in the street. I know there are some fancy radios that hide their own front (so you're effectively stuck with a halfway position between options 1 and 2) and that you can also buy covers that make it look as if you've removed the front. -
Cheap car insurance 28 Feb 2007 (Forum)
With apologies for the number of words! Back in January I renewed my car insurance. I got all the prices and went for Dial Direct. I explained I was changing my car in March and asked the price would be for the new car. I was told there would be £12 difference. Yesterday I phoned to transfer the policy. -
Accident management companies 29 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I took down her registration number, contacted the police and found out her name and contact no. Today I took the car for an estimate and was told that my back-panel is in need of repair, that the tailgate is also broken and that there is a danger of exhaust fumes entering the car so I must drie with the window open at all times (but he didn't say not to drive it). -
500 - Fiat 500 wiring loom failure 19 Aug 2015 (Forum)
The more it is used the earlier the wiring will fracture and break, for instance, daily use for shopping or letting a dog in and out. The main dealer solution to this car was a £600 fit of a new wiring loom. However, with a little patience there is a simple repair that costs about a £1. First, pull some loom through the gaitor from the C pillar., then remove the internal tailgate pressed board cover to reveal the wiring connections, disconnect the two rear heated window connections, the rearwiper motor connection and undo the rear lock which allow you to pull some loom through from the tailgate. -
Insurance, tax and SORN question 20 Feb 2012 (Forum)
If an ANPR picked him up, he will be fined I presume. His saving grace is the car went straight to a garage for an MOT. However, the truth is while it did go to his friends garage, it did not go for an MOT. Surely the police would not allow someone to hide behind this technicality as an excuse and would investigate? -
Reanualt Clio 2 - Clio 2 2004 1.2 16v - Rough Running 15 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Hope this helps someone, have a 2004 clio 1.2 16v which apart from a new clutch a few months ago has been faultless for its 82,000 mile life, serviced correctly by independant garage and started to run rough with engine light flashing on and off. Read all the posts about the ECU cover chomping through the loom and checked this, 1 wire bare but not cut, could have been sending to earth so not helpful ( really stupid cover design Renault a monkey could have forseen issues there !).
