Cheaper Insurance Cover? 2 Mar 2007 (Forum)
On the basis that you are 'never to old to learn'...I have been motoring for in excess of 45 years...I have only recently discovered that it is actually cheaper with the majority of car insurers to have an additional driver on the policy e.g. a spouse or other 'mature' relative who has a clean driving record irrespective that they may never actually drive your car. Only found this out yesterday following an on-line quote when I discovered that it was £28 less if my wife was a named driver. -

Insurance premiums 19 Dec 2000 (Forum)
It seems to me that my insurance premiums increase yearly. It also seems to me that the amount the company would pay out to cover the cost of replacing the car if needed decreases. Shouldn't my premiums therefore decrease in line with that? If I pay (arbitrarily) £500 in year one, and they would pay out (arbitrarily) £8000 if the car is written off, why next year do I pay £550 but they would only pay £6500 (or whatever). -

Mazda 323 (1998 - 2003) - Insurance declined 9 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I just rang my insurer to change the car on my policy and to my surprise they said to me they can't cover me and my wife on our new car which is a Mazda 323 TD insurance group 7. According to the chap I had on the other line, the car has very high insurance group so they can't cover anyone under 30 and we both are! -
Insurance 14 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Hi everyone. I have three questions regarding insurance. 1. Which companies allow one policy with two cars on it? Do these constitute value for money in terms of claiming etc? 2. Can a policy be tailored so the value of the car you provide is the actual amount you are awarded in the event of a claim. This might be a car for example worth more to oneself than to the outside world. 3. -

VED and insured names 29 Dec 2005 (Forum)
this from the DVLA: "The insurance must be valid when the licence comes into force and indicate that it covers the use of the vehicle by the licence applicant. If the cover is unclear you may be asked to provide written confirmation." If a married couple have a car registered in the wifes name and the policy is in the husbands name as main driver (because he has the NCB and wife has none) and wife is a named driver on the policy......everything will be ok, yes? -
Sludge 24 Mar 2003 (Forum)
My wife's 1.6 8 valve, '97, 55,000 mile Astra is carrying quite alot of cream sludge, in the rocker cover and also on the dipstick which suggests pretty well covered in the crankcase. With just the pottering type mileage she does it is to be expected - but should I be concerned about it? Is there an easy way to get rid of it, such as me using the car for my long journey runs or should I use an engine flush or...... -

Need short term off-the-road insurance 12 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I don't need the DVLA-required third-party insurance, because I won't be driving it after I have brought it home, but after a bit of quick searching I haven't found anyone selling that sort of policy. I know that it used to exist, because my father once insured a car in that way while it was garaged for a few months, and I can see several situations in which people might still want that sort of cover. The best I have found so far is Norwich Union's short-term cover, but because it is designed for actually driving a car it works out a bit expensive (over £100 for 28 days). -
