00 1.1 - Citroen Saxo battery draining 23 Nov 2010 (Forum)
My daughter has a W reg Saxo and recently the steering went stiff, I had a new power steering relay fitted which solved the problem short term. The other night her battery had gone flat and so she got a bump start and came home, the following morning the battery was dead flat and so I took it off and charged it, thinking she had left her lights or the stereo on for longer than she should (you know what young girls are like) Any way the battery drained again within a few hours and so I bought a new battery, that too drained overnight and was so flat no lights came on even on the panel. -
Ford Fiesta - Battery Charging for seldom used vehicle 7 Nov 2020 (Forum)
Unsurprisingly then, this morning - given it was cold as well - it would not start, and the AA diagnosed the battery as being flat. The advice was to start and run the vehicle on the drive for 15 minutes each day. My father doesn't want the hassle of a trickle charger that means connecting / disconnecting to the terminals every time he wants to use it, and rather than start the car every day, I'm wondering if there are any other devices that work through the 12V socket that would trickle charge the battery all the time. -

Jaguar S-Type - Consumer Advice Please 19 Sep 2019 (Forum)
I bought the car in August 2018, and noted that it had a new battery fitted in January 2018. It's a Lion battery, not a brand I'd have chosen, but it was on the car. A few electrical gremlins later, I've just put my meter across the battery and read 12.4V (14.65 with the alternator charging). -

Peugeot 306 D Turbo HDI - Faulty electrics 18 Apr 2013 (Forum)
It has been suggested that this maybe a dying battery which has caused the dials to go a bit mad. The battery is less than 3 years old, is a sealed ac delco unit and is still showing green in the little window. Any ideas greatly appreciated. -

Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 1998 1.9dt - Dead batteries on key fob 28 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I realise that this has been touched upon previously but thought i'd ask again as there doesn't seem to be a definitive answer to the problem. The batteries on the keyfob on on my 98 1.9 dt go flat after a week of replacing. As far as I know the keys are i/r. Did also take to an auto electrical place who couldnt find a fault. It does work until the batteries go flat. -
Battery boiling - damage caused? 8 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Hi all, a description of my holiday motoring woes will follow in discussion (probably after being run past DD for naming and shaming clearance), but... The voltage regulator failed on my alternator, and was boiling the car battery, venting into the engine bay and (at lower speeds) through the ventilation system for about three or four hours of high speed driving on French autoroutes. The alternator and battery have been replaced under warranty, and I plan to get the manufacturer to change the soundproofing on the bonnet as you can see where the fumes have melted the insulation. -
Battery Warning Light VW 1.6 D Van 2 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Hello, I have an old 1981 VW Transporter camper, with a 1.6 Diesel engine. For a couple of weeks, the battery warning light started to come on at highish engine speeds, I thought the fan belts must be slipping so I've tightened these up, and checked that the alternator is turning ok, it is. What could be causing this light to come on ? -
Ultra efficient batteries 1 May 2005 (Forum)
Once somebody invents ultra efficient batteries, all cars (except recreational 'classics' such as Aston Martins etc.) will be electric. The reliance of the world on oil will be gone. We'll all recharge our cars overnight from the mains, which draw power from nuclear powerstations (probably based somewhere a long way away from anywhere such as the desert). -
Flat battery again. vw polo 2 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Following on from my earlier \'03 Polo flat battery problem..... http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=12781&v=f the darn thing did the same agin on saturday - dead as a proverbial. VW assistance guy managed to narrow it down to a .4 amp drain on the battery from the central locking circuit by removing the fuses one by one until the drain returned to normal .014 amp drain. -

Mini charging problem 5 Mar 2003 (Forum)
I'm terrible with electrics, the alternator when the engine is running gives 14v but the voltage at the battery/starter solenoid is only what is left in the battery 12.5v when I have charged it but only 9.7v after i drove from Newcastle to Leeds. I have tried different starter motors and the cable between battery, in the boot, and starter appears to be ok. -
