Nissan Almera (2000 - 2006) - 1.8 QG18DE engine. Erratic revving and EWL. 20 Nov 2007 (Forum)
I can do this with the Alfa and it doesn't store a fault code, but In so far as I can remember the Nissan ECU stores the code and does not clear until it was reset. Thanks for any assistance you can give a now ex-member. { SLT and moved from Discussion. } -
Design faults old and new which have caused misery 27 Aug 2007 (Forum)
These range from the famous VAG "Relay 109" to the failures of instrument panels (usually in parts), switch panels and some ECUs. The German manufacturers seem to have more than their fair share of these. Solder has no strength in fatigue - 6 bends and a stick of it is broken. Badly designed electronic assemblies suffer from fatigue as they are thermally cycled - the stress reversals ensure premature unit failure due to broken (not dry) joints. 659. -
Just got a mini cooper - what to watch? 24 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Was really pleased that I got the same trade in as I bought the car for 2 years ago, especially as it has starting issues that has been put down to fuel pump and ECU!!! Anyway is there anything specific I should be keeping an eye out for in terms of problems and what is the best way to ensure it lasts for quite some time. Currently done 44K and BMW are looking after the servicing free until either 2011 or 80,000 miles. -
Camper van with 1.9tdi Passat engine 29 Jun 2006 (Forum)
I've read other peoples postings on the same problem but being a complete dougnut when it comes to anything but driving the thing I don't understand what AFN, ECU,EGR IIRC or any of that means so if anyone could explain what I should try to resolve this problem I would be eternally grateful.Cheers Yours ( a complete dougnut on vehicles) Barty {Subject header amended, as per one of the sticky messages at the top of the page - DD} -
vw golf markIV stdi engine cut out 31 Mar 2006 (Forum)
It first manifested itself as a mild engine/revving vibration just on the point of coming to a standstill whilst decelerating - once the car is stationary the engine idles ok. This vibration seems worse when the engine is warm. I have had ECU electronically checked and it shows no fault codes. Fuel filter also changed. During the last couple of weeks the engine has just cut out about 5 times when driving. The revs suddenly drop and the engine cuts out. -
Mercedes 190e 2.0 auto idling problem 24 Apr 2005 (Forum)
If the car is on the driveway and idling it is fine (apart from sometimes hunting) and it will tick over when engaged in "drive" or "reverse" - it is only when actually driving the car that it stalls. I have had the ECU checked - OK, cleaned the idle control valve (+changed it over for another second hand one), checked the temp control sensor (+changed that over), also checked the over voltage relay; and replaced the lambda sensor. -
Weired Golf GTI problem 3 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Above 2000rpm the fuse blows again! On both occasions it has gone to two different garages who disconnected the ECU and took it to VW to test out. No fault was found with it and when it was replaced the fault goes away... until the next time...... I've got a mk3 golf also and looking at my Haynes manual it seems the fuse for the fuel pump shares the same circuit as the lamda heater. -
Mondeo TDCi diagnostics 22 Nov 2004 (Forum)
In 2.5 years and 82k miles I have had about 4 instances of the glow plug light flashing and the car taking two or three goes to start plus one instance where it went into 'emergency mode', I drove it to the dealer and they reprogrammed the ECU while I waited. Today I had a different occurance, the glow plug light went out as normal however both the yellow frost and red ice warning lights stayed on even though it was 9degC by the outside temp indicator (they normally go out 4 or 5 seconds after the ignition is switched on unless the outside temp is 3degC or below). -

Ford Mondeo TDDi 2.0 90ps Tuning Box 18 Sep 2004 (Forum)
It remaps the A/F ratio, apparently saving up mpgs on normal driving as the car will become more responsive and less gear changes, hence lower RPM. Also, it will instruct the ECU to inject more fuel during hard driving, consuming more mpgs, hence overall will be balanced out. Anyone has any experience on this product? Any problems associated with it? Engine integrities due to strain on fuel pump possible? -
Peugeot 406 climate control fault 7 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Suggestions he's had so far were to replace the control panel or plug some kind of additional "control box" (apparently specifically for the aircon) onto the ECU. 1) Does anyone know is there a proper name or part number for this "control box"? 2) Would replacing the control panel work? From what he's said, I don't think the term "control panel" means the facia on the dash, but some hidden control unit under the bonnet or behind the dash - maybe this is the same as the control unit mentioned above? -
Wet Rover won't start 30 Mar 2003 (Forum)
I've also fitted a rubber coil cover off of a later model and cleaned all of the low tension leads from the ECU but all to no avail even after a liberal soaking of WD40. The car does several hundred miles a week, easliy passed all of its emission tests in last months MOT and when running is fautless. What else can I try? -
Peugeot 307 SW - 2005 Peugeot 307 1.6hdi Engine issues 5 Apr 2019 (Forum)
I've had the codes read and it comes up with the following: P0405 - Electronic EGV valve position copy signal/signal volaage too low P1728 - Engine Torque Engine Torque sent on the too low P1351 - Preheating relay circuit relay supplied and never supplied P0299 - Turbo pressure regulation Turbo pressure measured too low P0483 - Cooling function incorporated into ECU fault. Consistency between fan speed and setting. I have replaced the air filter and the rocker cover gasket so far as the air filter didn't look although it had been replaced for ages and there was a leak from the rocker cover. -
Citreon - My car will fail it's MoT if I put winter tyres on 23 Dec 2017 (Forum)
So if your car was registered before Jan 2012 swapping winter and summer tyres will not cause an issue with an MOT Most vehicle ECUs will store data for both winter and summer tyres and specialist equipment allows clonning of TPMS valves so cheap valves can be fitted and clonned very easily. Biggest problems is garages wont invest in TPMS clonning equipment as they dont see the potential due to the fact they dont understand just what it can do. -
2016 Peugeot 308 1.2 THP - Engine cutting out dangerously when driving 19 Apr 2017 (Forum)
It doesn't restart for some minutes causing me great anxiety as the the traffic jams grow. No faults show up on the cars computer listings. So far Peugeot have carried out an ECU and gearbox update and next are to fit a new petrol pump. I have been without the car for 7 days which include an aborted trip to Calais and the courtesy car they tell me does not cover me in France. -
Ford fiesta style 2007 - Ford fiesta 07 style misfire\engine warning 19 Feb 2016 (Forum)
We thought all was solved until last week the light comes back on shortly after turning on the car , so far I've spent as much on petrol as I have fixing the thing , does anyone have a vague idea of what else could be causing the misfiring problem? Should also add we had the ECU taken out and there was an error with it but it was fixed , supposedly -
Vauxhall Zafira A - fuel pump 25 Jul 2015 (Forum)
Two weeks ago whilst at work it just wouldn't start, no warning lights or signs to tell me something was wrong beforehand. after a lot of investigation it was narrowed down to a fault on the fuel pump/ ecu. My car is currently off the road being repaired. Today I used my husbands car for work. A 2004 1.9 dci Renault megane. Started fine then all of a sudden wouldn't start, had it looked at and again have been told it is the fuel pump. -
Renault Clio II - Recommendations for bluetooth OBD2 port reader 20 Mar 2015 (Forum)
I've taken it to a garage a few times but they've not been able to find any fault code so either the fault isn't generating a code or other codes have pushed the fault codes out of the ECU's memory (I've left it overnight once but the temperature the following moring was too warm for the fault to show up). I was thinking if getting a cheap OBD2 port diagnostic unit, preferably bluetooth along with a bluetooth OBD2 App - There doesn't seem much point paying for a dedicated DBD2 diagnostic unit when my (Android) smartphone can perform the same function. -

Peugeot 106 - non starter 11 Jul 2014 (Forum)
So after checking the car over engine cranks normally but no spark and no petrol cross wired pump and that runs ok so not the problem. So I think starter relay changed it no go so maybe a prob with imobiliser so changed out ecu and aerial coil on ignition no go have checked fuel cut off all wire connection and earths all good. I have noticed whilst standing over the engine pondering the meaning of life that the ignition relay clicks open and closed again every 3/4 minutes with no keys in the ignition?
