  • Police "Chase" on M8 today 15 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Witnessed what appeared to be a police chase on the M8 today. Two marked Volvo Estates with lights blazing chasing an unmarked Sierra or Mondeo I think. OK it wasn't at peak hours (11am) but road still busy. My "Insider" later told me that it was actually a police training exercise.
  • Ordering new car - contract? 13 Apr 2006 (Forum)
I have ordered a new Volvo C70 and paid 10% deposit (10 days ago). They cannot give me a delivery time other than "in Q4 2006". My questions are: - How long should I reasonably have to wait to be given an approximate build or delivery date?
  • Help replacing my Mondeo 27 Dec 2005 (Forum)
I've decided to replace my 98 Mondeo ST 24 but have already run into a problem; too many choices! I started looking at Audi (A4 and A6), VW Passat, Volvo, Saab, Mazda MX6, Honda Accord, Nissan Primera... not too keen on BMW's or Jags, just because of the type of person who normally drives them -(;0) I've got about £10k to spend, if I get a good trade in on the Mondeo and also shift the Shogun - I've been looking at Diesels for fuel economy, performance isn't too important although I've always loved the V6 sound -(:0).
  • Dream car revisited 6 May 2005 (Forum)
Subaru Outback 3.0R until someone in Europe makes a slightly raised (not SUV) superb handling (not SUV) grand tourer with room for five. As I've said before, when Volvo, Merc, BMW etc make a prestige MPV with all the driving qualities they are known for but do not include in their SUVs then I may consider one...until then hello Fuji Heavy Industries. -- Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
  • Fitting Intercooler to Pug 306 HDi 90 27 Dec 2004 (Forum)
I've just handed back a '03 plate Volvo V40 diesel with the 115bhp lump when I left the company. I am now running about in a Pug 306 HDi 90 that used to belong to SWMBO. It is great on the handling side, but I am missing the extra bhp.
  • Help appreciated on selecting new car 7 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Want to move to something a bit more prestigious and nearly new. Can live without an Estate and am considering a Volvo S60 D5 Diesel for good performance and fairly low Co2 emmisions but what else would people recommend for my budget of £14-16,000? Want 03 reg to be as old as it gets, ruling out BMW's - any suggestions?
  • Do these cars exist? 29 Aug 2004 (Forum)
11 days ago I made enquiries about a Volvo V70 D5 SE 4.2k miles. registered Jan 2004. Advertised at the price of £18k (seemingly an incredibly low price). The ad' appeared on a very well known website. I received a phone call from the company the following day and was told that the vehicle had just been sold, however other more expensive vehicles were available.
  • used car for 8K 27 Jun 2004 (Forum)
My advice to him would be to buy a Used Honda Accord, relaible, well built etc etc, but he is more interested in something like a VW Passat 1.8SE or Volvo s60. He is not at all keen on Modeao, 406, Vectra etc etc...my, at 8-9k he could buy a used high ,mileage Audi A6 or BMW 525, but in my opinion if anything major was to fail then it could cost dearly.
  • Adverts on here 7 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Sigh, This has been mentioned many many times now; there is even a dedicated thread to air your views in about the Volvo Advert, without starting yet another thread about it. If you\'re using MS Internet Explorer, then PRESS FUNCTION KEY F5 TWICE And yes, I am SHOUTING as no one seems to listen, no matter how many times it\'s been mentioned.
  • American busses? LHD or RHD? 8 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Are US busses LHD or RHD? And if they are RHD, why? *US cars? Looked at some of them on set, and they are UGLY! Even the Volvos and Mercs look almost like Muppets compared to the EU or SA versions...
  • Brits miss out on boots. 19 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Years ago the Austin 1100 (Victoria) was also not seen in the UK Ford learned the hard way with their - You will have a Granada with a hatch - and Vauxhall and Volvo to name but two loved it. Some of the motoring press certainly comment on the Focus saloon and the Bora / Jetta as not the one to buy but there are many Boras in my area.. Is it something strange with the UK market that we are not supplied with booted versions of the above?
  • Clutch question 27 Aug 2003 (Forum)
The pedal travel is high and there is a noticeable squeal when pulling away (clutch release bearing ??? - I'm really only guessing 'cos I know nowt about motors!). My local Volvo dealer will no doubt be happy to 'rob' me of ££££'s to do this job but I'd rather not line their pockets if I don't have to so how do I go about this ? My local indy guy won't be able to do it I'm sure, but will probably just farm it out somewhere.
  • New Jag XJ - Best Car in the World? 4 Jun 2003 (Forum)
I tend to think so - but I'll never know, can't even afford the 8 year old £6k example that he talked of! If i turned up at a Jaguar Dealers in my 1991 Volvo Estate, would they give me a 24 hour test drive in an XJR ???????????? but then JC spoils it and says the new VW could be a match ??????????? Course not - a VW - come on !!!!!!!!!!!! Is JC on a retainer from Ford?
  • Tyre Wear Rant 20 May 2003 (Forum)
I have just visited my local tyre retailer and they have informed me that my front Pirelli P6000's are worn out at 14k miles!!! I will be asking Volvo why they fit such crap tyres on a £26k car (V70 D5 SE). I know, Pirelli sell them cheap to car manufactures because no one else will buy them. I don't do racing starts, I stick to speed limits (except on motorways) basically drive the car sensibly.
  • Bargain GTX Magnatec - only £7 /litre 15 May 2003 (Forum)
..... plus VAT - available from your friendly Volvo dealer now!! Listed on recent service invoice - £0.70 per 0.1litre. The S80 takes 5.8 litres, so that'll be £40.60 +VAT = £47.70 , Sir. Following a recent debacle DIYing SWMBO's Passat, I was considering giving up spannering for good - but after this experience I think I've changed my mind!
  • Buying an Insurance wight off Help 6 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Hi All, I have recently opted out of my company are seem, and been thinking what car should I get, since I do around 25-35k miles PA. I have been playing with the idea of a 3 year old Volvo, but looked at my local Auto Trader and found some really good salvage cars - stolen and recovered or cat D classification insurance Wight off's. I can see there are massive saving to be had purchasing such a car, but I would like to know the pitfalls.
  • Pathetic! 11 Mar 2003 (Forum)
All perfectly legal, inside a parking bay, displaying a vistor\'s permit, etc. When I got back some moron had parked his Volvo S80 with the front number plate touching mine, and on double yellow lines, and on a speed hump, and facing the wrong way, and obstructing someone\'s drive, but displaying a resident\'s permit (which I guess made it OK).
  • "The Ultimate Driver's Machine"? 8 Mar 2003 (Forum)
I really liked the car but reckon this would kill my back - nothing like the near perfect pedal positions on the Volvo S60. Any defenders/comments? Dan J
  • Outcome 4 Mar 2003 (Forum)
(there are different types of gap, some only cover against negative equity). 2 ? We are now the proud and happy owner of a one year old Volvo V70 D5 Auto ? looking forward to a long and happy relationship. HJ?s recommendation and the backroom archive were strong factors influencing the decision to buy this car. First impressions are much better quality than the Omega (to be expected at the price), more comfortable, very economical (36 mpg so far) ,but not such a ?
  • Shortlist opinions? 5 Dec 2002 (Forum)
I hope to change car in the next week or so, and have finally whittled the choice down to the following (in no particular order): Volvo S80 2.4 SE (170 BHP) Mercedes-Benz E240 Elegance Saab 9-5 2.0/2.3 SE B** 523i SE Requirements are: peaceful cruising down busy dual-carriageways, good safety, and automatic transmission. Fuel consumption, driving dynamics and 'image' are relatively unimportant.
