Zafira 1.9CDTI SRi - cutting out while driving! HELP 14 Sep 2021 (Forum)
Ive noticed sometimes when its playing up the trip screen says ' battery remote control' No fault codes have been found as yet but once it did flash up CIM module? Will i need an auto electrician and does anybody think it might be the ECU? I have had a few things done to the car to test to see if it would fix it, Fuel filter changed - was realllllllly dirty!! (obv never been changed) Throttle body cleaned EGR cleaned DPF checked Fuse box cleaned and checked - no visible dodgy wires or blown fuses Oil filter change and new oil Injectors tested - all working but not at their best New cam belt (this had also never been changed!!) -
Peugeot 308 - Peugeot 308, 2010 Petrol 1.6l Noisy fan 24 Sep 2018 (Forum)
Also, the mechanic disconnected the connection between battery and fan and fan did not stop, mechanic thinks it should stop if it were a temp sensor error. Mechanic now says may be a corrupt ECU or fuse board or something. bit of background.Initially after the car was bought few months ago it was working fine with no fan issue. But AC was not working so took it back to the dealer. -
Citroen C3 (2002 - 2009) - 02 1.4HDi 16v engine cutting out at random 7 Jun 2018 (Forum)
Yesterday, I had the same brief cut in power which lasted a second or so but then the oil pressure warning light came on and the car drove as normal. A quick pull over to the side of the road to turn ignition on and off and all is well again. No ECU lights are lit on the dash and Citroen say they cannot find any codes stored. They (randomly it seems) changed the throttle pot assy on the pedal but this has made no difference. I'm now at my wits end with the thing - Citroen obviously have no idea what's wrong and it's so intermittent anyway they can never actually witness the problem when they test drive it. -
Vauxhall Corsa - 50mph crash, write off, old car :( 2 Oct 2017 (Forum)
Missed out on a job interview that was the next day :( but since had a job offer from a interview I went too before only a £7,000 per year pay drop from the one I missed out on. Devestated. Anyway, my car was a 53 plate corsa. Only had it two years. In that time the ECU had to be replaced, head gasket, timing chain and water pump. Got it for £2,000 ended up putting over 2k into it in repairs. Yes, I know but I loved my car!! Currently waiting for the Lorry's company insurance to deem it a total loss. -
Landrover Freelander - Consumer Rights Act 2015 10 Feb 2017 (Forum)
From the AA van I called the dealer and asked if I shold get it revovered to him and he told me I could take it to any garge, so I had it recovered to a Jaguar / Landrover specialist that I have used previously. After much diagnostic work and repairs including a new fuel pump, new ECU and fuel injectors, all costing me over £3,400 the car was back on the road. Twice we offered to give the car back to the dealer for him to look at and repair and twice he refused, saying that my garage had caused the fault. -
Nissan Note - Help needed - intermittent vehicle fault 26 Nov 2015 (Forum)
The guy took it for a drive and stated that the fault didn't occur. He also confirmed that the ECU held no fault codes. I reported this to Nissan and they stated that I would be charged £100 for a diagnostic if it wasn't covered by warranty. Yesterday we switched cars and I put half a bottle of redex into the tank incase the issue was with fuel being ran to the dregs, or quality of the supermarket fuel. -

Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 1999 1.8 overheating problem? 1 Jan 2014 (Forum)
Once you're in or near the red, the car sometimes feels almost sluggish, like the power isn't right - could this be the Cylinder Head Temp (CHT) sensor telling the ECU to take precautions ? Strangely - if you ease off, it'll often return to the 12 o'clock position really quickly too - takes less than 30 seconds sometimes !? Both the coolant and oil levels are fine and there are no obvious leaks around any of the visible hoses or themostat housing. -
Volvo V60 - Fault tracing and misleading diagnostic codes 11 Nov 2013 (Forum)
Here's a little tale of how diagnostic codes stored in ECUs can be misleading and ambiguous when trying to trace the true cause of a fault. Just under 3 weeks ago, I had the 'emissions warning' lamp light up in my 2011 V60 D3 when I was in the middle of a 200 mile journey. -
Vauxhall Corsa - Garage shears off glowplug: who's responsible? 8 Sep 2012 (Forum)
My 2008 Vauxhall Corsa 1.3CDTi (~39K on clock) showed a warning light the other week - the one that's the orange car and spanner - so took it in to get a diagnosis. The fault code they reported was something along the lines of the ECU wasn't getting a signal / talking to a glowplug. Their course of action was to replace the glowplugs. Within half an hour, they'd rung to say that although 3 of them had come out fine, one hadn't but had in fact sheared off, thereby leaving part of it situ. -
Renault Clio II Expression - Renault Clio 2001 1.2 16v - Electrical Fault Light 8 Jun 2012 (Forum)
Also while the light is on, if I rev the engine to about 4000rpm for a minute or two while stationary this will cure the problem temporarily. My husband has changed the air filter, spark plugs and checked ECU wires for chaffing. They were already taped up but he removed the tape and inspected them, there didn't seem to be any damage to the wires themselves, just the plastic was slightly worn on one or two of them. -
Ford Fiesta (2002 - 2008) - 2002 1.4TDCI ? injectors or pump 26 May 2012 (Forum)
can the siemens system be tested) to be told all four injectors needed replacing. When I got it back the last time it could only just do 30mph with foot flat to floor on accelarator and it kept stalling never done that before. We have been told lots of waffle over the last few months. It has supposed to have had the exhaust cut in half to test the pressure, ecu checked and fuel pump flow. Two of the injectors have been taken out again and the spray was ok.Someone told us the injectors need coding on the siemens and one guy said not.Totally confused don't know where to go now.We have got to pick it up tomorrow after it's latest 6wk stint at the garage still unroadworthy.Mechanic now thinks could be injector pump but needs taking off and testing.Might still not be that. Please can somebody help. -
ford fiesta 1.25 zetec T reg - over revs but not stalling or power loss 2 Apr 2012 (Forum)
But if im driving along as normal and gear change from 3 to 4 etc, revs DROP for a split second. Ive tried an ECU reset about five times now and still the same (i cant find appropriate fuse so just been disconnecting the battery) so i disconnected the VSS (triangle plug thing that sits in the gearbox) that works a treat except my speedo is electronic, so no vss no speedo. -
VW Passat 1997 TDi 110bhp - VW TDi revs on hot start and no power 11 Mar 2011 (Forum)
On diagnostics again, fuel solenoid came up, he put in a new air mass meter and swapped the solenoid with another one (not new) faults cleared in ecu. He thought it made an improvement and to be fair it did but it's still way down on power and still revs on starting when hot. Any suggestions welcome, I will try and pressurised the fuel system tomorrow as per another thread to see if there is an air leak using the rag in tank neck and compressed air. -
SEAT Altea (2004 - ) - 55000 mile report 22 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Reliability proved to be the downfall of this car, we chose to sell in the end as the time between each failure never really exceeded a few months, here are some highlights: Electronic throttle failure from delivery, caused ECU to disconnect throttle control which was exciting on the motorway ? this required 13 dealer visits over 6 months before they found a fix. Front wheel bearing failure Remote locking failed Water pump leak Coolant leak from plastic coolant port Boot lock failed Coil pack failure Exhaust gas recirculation valve failure Catalyst broke up - this was a £700 fix Further coolant leak, source unknown. -
Nissan Primera III (1999 - 2002) - 01 2.0 Fuel economy has nose dived - ideas? 18 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Does anyone have any ideas of what is likely to be causing this problem given the information above, and better still how to test components? I think I can put the ECU into diagnostics mode to see if the lambda sensor is cycling through open/closed loop often enough but that's about it. Any ideas most welcome, thank you. -
Peugeot 806 MPV (1995 - 2003) - 01 2.0 Expert HDi 110 black smoke and poor economy 2 Nov 2008 (Forum)
I guess this would mean that the turbo's not spinning up quite as well as it should, and therefore it's not giving much boost which in turn means that it's not getting enough air to mix with the fuel that the ECU thinks it needs - end result is over-fueling and black smoke. I have disconnected the exhaust where the cat connects to the centre silencer and the cat seems to be clear. The engine runs a little better and the turbo seems to come in a bit quicker, but it's not a massive difference and I am still getting plenty of black smoke coming out the cat. -
Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - 02 2.0 HDi low power after hitting flood. 23 May 2008 (Forum)
Its obviously delivering fuel, more than before, yet I have really low power in the lower revs. Overtaking is now a memory!! Tried the disconnect battery thing to reset ECU, all this got me was an "ENGINE IMMOBILISER FAULT", a tow trip to the garage and a 100 euros to reset. and its still the same. -
03 Laguna repair - opinions needed 13 Jun 2007 (Forum)
The service guy said (direct quote) that the AA were 'drama queens', and that there's a backup in the ECU that ensures that the car goes into limp mode if the sensor fails, and won't simply cut out. So, who's right? Let me add that the garage did not apologise about the fault, but fixed it by soldering and shrink wrapping the wires properly. -
Ford Zetec 1.8 high idle 1 Sep 2004 (Forum)
What of the engine management system is left to replace? Mass flow detector? Engine temperature detector? Throttle position detector? ECU? I dont pretend to understand how all these work together (or If I have the right names. Is the input manifold gasket likely to be faulty, Is there a mechanical fault? Why can't a dealer find out exactly whats wrong with all their fancy equipment?
