I have an ongoing issue with a 2L Astra DTI which vauxhall seem unable to solve. I have so far had the EGR valve and Mass Airflow meter replaced. The issue is that when driving(normally on the motorway at speed) the engine management light comes on and I lose all power. I can stop and restart the car and it goes back to normal. The car seems to hestitate a under normal driving also. -

405 engages gear but no drive 21 Jan 2007 (Forum)
As I arrived home I turned the wheel fairly hard left to park, and heard a grinding noise form the left front wheel, as if from the suspension/turret. Moving it this morning the same noise was evident, and then it lost all drive, apart from some expensive sounding crunching. The gears appear to engage, but all I get is the grinding noise, as if something is not quite engaged and he cogs are jumping over each other. The same in 1st and reverse, which makes me think/hope that it's outside the gear box. -
Driving in high winds 20 Jan 2007 (Forum)
The tyres are quite narrow and it doesn't feel too stable. When do you think it's too bad to decide not to drive? The Police advise motorists to be cautious etc. I know it's about 80mph wind speed. Has anyone ever seen a car blown over, as happens to lorries? I don't feel to happy about the return commute tonight... -
Traffic Cops 23 Nov 2006 (Forum)
There was, I thought, a rich irony in the Traffic Cops programme last night. The single mother was nicked for driving without insurance - and possibly road tax - and possibly driving licence in her clapped out Fiesta and was fined £200. She probably hasn't got tuppence to call her own. The guy in the expensive Mercedes who was found to have - I think - nine sticks of cannabis under the drivers seat, got away scot free. -
Saxo broken drive shaft 13 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Hi Guys, My niece has just had a drive shaft on the o/s of her 'w' reg Citroen Saxo break off. I was surprised to see it was tubular rather than solid and it had ended up like a corkscrew. Also the joint attached to the gearbox had been nearly yanked out causing oil spillage. -
Vauxhall Omega (1994 - 2003) - no drive on new automatic gearbox box 20 Apr 2006 (Forum)
I have had a small garage fit a new GM 4L30E (recon) automatic gearbox to my Omega, but there is now no drive. I got the gearbox from a working low mileage late model, and then replaced lots of seals in it, some I did myself, and some an automatic specialist did. It has then been in dry storage for 6 months. -
Why unnecessary fog lights annoy me 11 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Fog lights are the equivalent of sticking two fingers up at everyone that the car passes by and that is what gets my personal goat. All the usual disclaimers apply, namely I am not condoning drink-driving etc. -
Nissan Almera 28 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Hi all, I've just returned from my trip to South West Cork - very good time was had, especially enjoyed the driving :-) I rented a car which when I collected was a brand new Nissan Almera Saloon - very comfortable drive, althouhg the ride was a tad hard for some of the roads. On the small widing roads round the coast it handled superbly. -
Dilemma 5 Jul 2005 (Forum)
One of the women in the cottage next door to us (my parents lease out the cottages around our farmhouse) drives dangerously fast in an ancient car. She is a learner driver and regularly drives alone in the car. She has failed her test 4 times to date. I'm certain she's going to have a serious accident soon in the Devon lanes - I've met her once and she was going three times my speed. -
Equipment for driving in Europe 8 Jun 2005 (Forum)
I am aware of the following, but I am sure there are many more. 1. In Spain you have to carry a spare pair of glasses, if you need glasses for driving. 2. In Germany you are required to carry spare fuel on the autobahns, but you aren't allowed to take it in to Europe in the Tunnel. 3. Spare bulbs, even if you can't fit them without a vist to a garage (Audi among others) 4. -
97 Megane Wheel Bearing And Clutch Q's? 14 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Also when pressing the clutch pedal down slowly or releasing it slowly, it makes a squeeking sound (i.e when trying to find bite point). It doesn't make this noise when using the clutch in normal driving. It seems to be ok for 10 minutes in the morning but starts doing it after driving a little. Hope the clutch isn't on the way out- any ideas? Thanks -
Too big to drive? 6 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Saw a disturbing sight today. Was a VERY well padded guy in a small car (isnt it always the case?)driving the M62. he was so big that he had the seat probably all the way back so he could fit behind the wheel. Problem was, he had to hunch foreward with both shoulders off the seat rear to reach the wheel. barely. not a pretty sight, but should this be allowed? -
Isuzu 1.7DTI Oil Pump Drive Bolt 13 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Hi, Does anyone have any information on the problem of the oil pump drive retaining bolt working loose on this engine? Have heard of a few engine failures due to this problem. Does anybody know the cause of the problem? Is it due to an assembly process error, i.e. lack of thread lock on the bolt, or not torqued properly? -

Driving in Plymouth 19 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Has anyone else had the misfortune of driving around Plymouth recently? A year ago, Plymouth was a free-flowing city centre. I rarely, if ever, got stuck in traffic. Now, it's traffic-hell all day, every day. The local council has replaced every underpass with a surface level crossing, added numerous additional surface level crossings, and singled the main route through the city, which used to be a reasonably busy dual-carriageway route. -
BMW Styling 3 Jan 2005 (Forum)
I've also noticed through reading the forums that a lot of you seem to hate drivers of Beemers - why is this? Haha I'm just interested in the thoughts of motorists! I drive a Ford Ka and a Vauxhall Corsa which is my instructors car - talking of 'image' what sort of person does it make you if you drive these? Cheers! -
U.S. driver - U.K. Insurance? 8 Oct 2004 (Forum)
from my insurance company on this one - so the natural recourse is to the collective wisdom of the backroom. My American girlfriend (full U.S. license, insured to drive her own car in the U.S.A. etc etc)would like to drive when she visits the UK and I'd be perfectly happy for her to use my car. My insurance company says they won't cover her and implied they didn't think anyone else would, either. -
Emergency spare wheels 19 Aug 2004 (Forum)
I was reading HJ column in today's Telegraph and there is a letter from someone who had his driving test cancelled because the car he was taking the test in was fitted with a skinny spare following a puncture the previous day. Whilst not wanting to upstage HJ the response he gave was incorrect, but of more concern was the fact that the driving instructor didn't know the law on skinny spares. -
Where cops drive Lamborghinis 19 May 2004 (Forum)
The sports car, painted in the police's distinctive blue and white colors, comes complete with a flashing blue light on the roof and will initially patrol the Salerno-Reggio Calabria motorway -- a road notorious in Italy for wild driving. The Lamborghini will also be used to transport human organs for emergency operations.
