Vauxhall Zafira A (1999 - 2005) - 99 1.6 Fuel starvation? 11 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Can anyone help with a problem I'm having with my 99(V) 1.6 Zafira? What has happened on a few occasions is the engine suddenly lost power after a long journey involving over 1 1/2 hours of motorway/dual carriageway driving. I believe it is caused by fuel starvation as there are no warning lights or signs of overheating. -
New Ford Fiesta 1000 Ecoboost - Gear lever vibration at around 2500revs 25 Oct 2015 (Forum)
Honest John advises that there are minor diferences between Ecoboost 100 and 125 with the 125 having an overboost and suggests using the high grade Shell V-Power Nitro Plus petrol so I will give that a go to see if there is an improvement. Anyone else noticing this characteristic? -
Subaru Legacy and Outback Petrol (2004 - 2009) - Lumpy running on regular unleaded 16 Nov 2009 (Forum)
The user manual for Subaru Legacy 2.0 says that the car should run fine on regular unleaded (95) and it is only the turbos that need the premium fuel (98 or above). However I am finding that the performance of my non-turbo 2.0 r is brilliant with say Shell v-power but horribly lumpy with regular unleaded. Obviously I am paying throgh the nose for the premium fuel and would rather not if I could avoid it. I'm doing a lot of out-of-town driving and the on borad comp tells me I am averaging 30.3 mpg even on the premium which sounds a little on the low side to me. -
6 'Fan' belts shredded!! 1997 VW Polo 23 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Thanks to all of you. My problem is a 1997 VW Polo 1.9 L Diesel. It's shredded 6 'fan' (alternator, coolant pump & power steering) belts in 4 months, with only 2000 miles done. The ribbed V belts look like they've been scored into between the 4th & 5th rib. Three garages can't see any rubbing & are at a loss. £600 has not remedied the problem. -

Any? - Peaking Capacitor Spark Plugs 7 Feb 2021 (Forum)
DIY , but only a bench visual demo of modded plug (Champion with resistor removed) with high voltage cap in parallel to it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OA_kCJECfiA A (the main?) commercial implementation. Plugs with an internal capacitance claimed to give higher energy better timed spark. Fairly restrained pitch. Unsubstantiated claims for power and fuel economy, but that’s pretty much industry standard, so not necessarily diagnostic of BS. -
Ford Ranger 2500cc Diesel pick-up - Won't rev past 2000rpm 9 May 2016 (Forum)
Ford Ranger 1999 non turbo (v reg) same as Mazda B2500 Hi everyone, Thanks for taking the time to read my problem, but I just have a feeling it's something really simple to someone with more experience in these matters than me. -
Skoda Octavia 1.6FSI (2006) - Petrol 3 Dec 2012 (Forum)
When I first filled up I used 95RON but found the engine to be a big sluggish. I switched to Shell 99RON (Optimax as it was and now V Power and which I understand cleans engines) and used it no problems since. Today I have found that my local Shell garage is closing down at the end of the week to be replaced by a BP garage. My nearest Shell garage will then be over 10 miles away across a Town that I don't normally travel through. -

Sony XR-6459 car radio wiring 30 Jun 2006 (Forum)
I want to put it in my car, but am unsure of the wiring- I've got the speaker wires which are dark green/dark green black, white/white black, pink/pink black and grey/grey black (I may have got them a bit wrong- colour blind and struggling!!) I don't know which way round they all go. Also there are the main power wires etc. I've got a red, blue, black and yellow. I could probably figure out the speaker wires by trial and error, but is there anyone who could possibly give me some advice on the red, blue, black and yellow Thanks v much! -
Ideal small(ish) car required 8 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Hi all, Mrs V. will be taking her test in a few months time and (hopefully) passing first time. When she does I'd like to get her another car to replace her ultra reliable Skoda Felicia which doesn't have power steering. -
American Car Reliability 21 Nov 2004 (Forum)
(Although how Mercedes S Class & BMW 7 Series are listed as 'mid range' cars beats me.) In the JD Power survey Jaguar are 2nd MOST reliable, BMW 4th and Merc 10th - all with reliability above average. The one unmistakeable trend in every kind of value, reliability & sales survey in the USA is that Japanese and Korean cars are winning and European cars are losing. -
Economy of Automatics 28 Jan 2002 (Forum)
The subject of Automatic v Manual has been raised on a number of occasions and it is simply a matter of personal choice which suits. I suspect that the majority, like me, drive manuals because an Automatic saps power, costs more to buy and you get a lower mpg. -

Audi A3 + S3 (1996 - 2001) - 2000 1.8T - Shuddering/misfiring - Help! 23 Feb 2013 (Forum)
He was so sure of this that he never charged me for any of his lenghty tests, and I duly chugged to the dealership...Not looking forward to that conversation in the future... I run the car on good fuel, V-power, and have done for 6 months with no problems. Plugs replaced 10k ago with last service. Any thoughts? Help? Thanks for listening, Clach -
BMW 320i M-sport - BMW 320i pertol incredible mpg 5 Nov 2018 (Forum)
According to the consumption and distance covered I achieved 64 mpg! I am amazed at that figure - I used stop-start and eco mode and used Shell v-power fuel and cruise control wherever practical. I also used drift where safe.. The return journey involved busier, wet, roads so consumption was just over 50 mpg, I verified the connected drive app figures by refilling as soon as I returned and working out the total number of litres used. -
MK1 Focus 2.0 Petrol versus MK5 Golf 2.0 diesel 6 Jan 2016 (Forum)
I am looking to buy a MK5 Golf 2.0 GT (pre DPF) to replace my Focus 2.0 Zetec petrol. I do 12k milage a year and want the holy grail of more torque, power and economy. I am amazed at the torque difference on paper between the two (131 v 236 lb-ft), but the Golf is alot heavier (16%). Fuel economy and road tax are hugely better too. I have very briefly driven the Golf and was really impressed. -

Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 99 1.4 Jumpy between 2 & 3K rpm 1 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Hi Folks, First post here so hoping you can help me out! I've got a '99 V plate focus 1.4 CL. Over the last few months it seems to be getting worse in the sense that when idling it is fluctuating, not by a great deal but fluctuating nonetheless. Also it seems to be loosing power as now when i put the foot down on the motorway, when in anything above 3rd gear it struggles to move anywhere quickly.
