Probably the best built car we have ever owned but the slowest to get moving!
There has been a fad amongst car manufacturers to bring to market small cc diesel engines. The problem with them is they lack power at low revs and the turbo needs to kick-in before you get decent acceleration. I'm not convinced that these high revving small diesels give fuel economy. At an average of 54.8 mpg this is far worse than my previous 1.6 diesel Peugeot which averaged 64.1mpg.
However the Meriva is a brilliant small MPV which is very comfortable. The self-locking system is annoying as is the eco-start but this is made up for by the excellent build quality with no rattles or squeaks.
With a bigger engine this car could be the best in its class.
