Quality Vehicle - With Issues

This is our fourth Sportage, we bought one of the very first models wj3n they emerged in 2011.

Initially no problems what so ever, excellent drive and very happy. That said prior to hitting the 10K mark the engine (mild hybrid) had a major problem, completed failed and had to be recovered back to the desrlership. Long story very short root cause seems to be crankshaft issues, dealer has informed the engine has to be completely stripped, not a quick task especially with a shortage of parts and 20 plus other vehicles sat waiting for the same repairs. After talking to the dealer all the vehicles failed at random mileages, some pushed out 20K before failure, others 5K.

Hire vehicle was eventually supplied by Kia from Enterprise, that’s another story. Beware of being used as a proverbial football by Kia assist, Kia hire and the dealership - the left & right hand do not talk to each other. When a hire vehicle does eventually appear it’s pot luck whether you receive ‘like for like’.

Once the vehicle is returned from its ‘sabbatical’ time will tell whether it’s mechanical problems are a thing of the past......
