Quality, reliability and something different

Having had an older Civic 2.0 Type S which ran beautifully for 7 years until someone rear ended me and wrote it off, i had to look for a new car. Being so impressed with the old one, i turned to Honda once again. This 1.8 is is no racing car (where can you drive that fast anyway these days), but it will shift along when required, you just have to use the revs, which is no problem as the engine is sweet enough all through the rev range. It returns 43mpg (rural area) and I have no doubt it could reach 50mpg on a good run, much as Honestjohn reported. As with everything, it's a matter of taste, but the cockpit is quite unique and driver orientated and feels very well built. I like a decent interior as that's where you spend all your time, although the driving position might cause you trouble as the seat is a little higher due to the fuel tank being in the middle of the car and not the rear. The boot is one of the biggest in the class and it has the magic seats which could prove very useful on occasions. There's a very good level of kit, it drives nicely and feels like a quality product. Having looked at the alternatives, I think this is one of the best cars in its class / age. There's no turbo charging of a tiny engine, no diesel related issues, just a proven, very well engineered and durable car that manages to be different and enjoyable to own.
