2.2i CTDi Si 5dr Hatchback

Engine that pulls like a train, MPG about the same....

We bought this car 2nd hand from Mon Motors 20,000 miles or so on the clock.
Not long after buying the car the clutch started to slip on hills so took it to out local Honda dealer to have a look at it, who also found the bump stops needed replacing, which was a disappointment as we thought we were in for a lot of trouble with the car.... Honda offered to pay for half the repair cost due to the low millage of the car which was great! We have not had a problem since (68K now)
We initial bought the car for it’s boot size and it is great about 15L smaller then a Focus Estate in a better looking package!
The engine pulls like a train but sadly doesn’t return the economy I was hoping for, we get between the high 40’s and low 50’s mpg wise on a mixed cycle around Cornwall, where as out previous Fabia VRs 1.9 Tdi was getting closer to 60 mpg with ease, and that was enjoying the massive kick in the back side the Fabia gives.. .
Tyres are not the cheapest either, going for a decent brand you are looking at near £100 per corner, also we found the wheel alignment is easily knocked out, more so then my old Saxo VTR on the same roads. It does seem to crash about the place rather then roll...
It is a tad noisy and grubbily but it is a fairly large diesel and the sound of the turbo spooling up never gets old...
I do kid of wish I went for a Toyota as the Honda while nice inside does sound a bit tinny in places, and the lack of a rear wiper is a bit of a sin, the rain dispersing coating does not work at all.

Oh the lack of a spare wheel is also poor, my wife ended up pulling the tyre off the rim when trying to get to a safe spot to call for the RAC, not good at all.

In all it is a great family car if you need the space, our kids no longer need the large pram so we are looking to down size to something like a Yaris (maybe Hybrid....) But if you need a massive boot and a large diesel to pull you about with a bit of style (the dash is cool!) the Civic is great, the Tax is cheap enough for a 2.2 diesel (£110?) and around 50mpg isn’t too bad I suppose...
