Overall reliability

fun to drive, untill it had a complete power steering failure at 50mph.

We have loved this car for 15 000 miles of fun involving driving, with only one slight niggle of the i pod usb interface being a bit clunky to operate. Fuel consumption has been acceptable if not as good as ford declared.

At just over a year old the car had complete power steering failure at 50 mph and we very nearly crashed, without the power steering it is not just a case of the steering being a bit heavy,
it is almost impossible to control, were we on a bend it would have been serious crash.

on restarting the car the steering was working, a search online shows we are not the only new Ford focus owners to experience this fault.

the car went to Ford for repair, as they could not replicate the fault in the garage ( this took 11 days) the car was returned unfixed and we are being billed for the replacement car ( booked by Ford at Avis and provided under a 5 year Ford warranty)

My wife is now too frightened to drive the car in case this fault reoccurs, she was on a school run with a car full of children when the steering failed.
