Brilliantly uncomplicated

I had the use of a Renault-badged version of the Sandero in South Africa for 2000km. I was mainly on my own, but carried passengers at times and was extraordinarily impressed. The seats and ride perfectly comfortable for the lengthy journeys I had to make, and the car did not feel overwhelmed by the large vehicles and high speeds of South Africa's national road network. The air conditioning was also up to the job of keeping the heat of a Karoo summer at bay, despite the car being coloured black. I had enough confidence in the engineering of the car to take on 90km of dirt road (and had a lot of fun doing so!). All the while, it returned around 50mpg.
The interior was a little cheap in places, and the car is hardly the last word in style or finesse, but it did not feel like it was going to develop problems long term.
I'm delighted that this car is being launched here at last - the version I hired was simple, uncomplicated and trustworthy. I just hope that the Renault technology has had its electrical gremlins ironed out (bad experience with a 2003 Clio!).
