118i 1.5 Sport 5dr Hatchback

Sporty flexible hatchback with very spacious front seats

I bought this car last year to replace my ageing BMW 320D Sport. As we have another car with ample space for five, I decided to go for the smaller hatchback and switch to petrol. The car is great to drive - it handles extremely well, the engine is incredibly smooth, quiet and, in Sport mode, very punchy for such a small capacity and never feels under powered. The front sports seats could be uncomfortable for anyone who is broad of beam but are supportive and great for tall drivers and passengers. The integrated sat nav, hands free phone and music system is excellent. As I use the car for journeys to/from golf, the ease with which the rear seats go flat is an essential feature which I use frequently, although it is possible to fit a set of clubs in the boot minus the driver and no electric trolley. My only real criticism is the gearbox which can be rather notchy and as the clutch is rather heavy it's too easy to miss a gear change. If I was buying the car now I would want to try the automatic gearbox version which I suspect may be a better option.
