I've been living abroad and only rented cars since 2008 - what's the best way to get insurance upon returning to the UK?

I will be returning to the UK soon. Having only rented cars in the UK since 2008, what would be the best way to get back into the UK insurance market? I've had no claims when using insurance in other countries.

Go on someone else's policy as a named driver and build some driving history up over here. Alternatively, if you work for a company that gives you a company car, that could benefit you by doing the same thing. If you can prove no claims from when you have been abroad, if it can be validated, you may find insurers over here that will take it into consideration. Use brokers and direct insurers rather than price comparison sights for this.
