I recently bought a used Ford Fiesta but the air conditioning needs re-gassing - must I pay for this?

I recently purchased a 57-reg Ford Fiesta Zetec from my local dealer. I have switched the air conditioning on several times since I bought it, but with the weather being so inclement I couldn't tell if it was working or not. The recent hot weather has shown it not to be working at all. I returned the car to rectify this as it is still under warranty, but they want to charge me £50 for re-gassing the system. I am a little put out as it obviously wasn't working when I purchased it. Do I have any redress?

They should do the decent thing and at least split the cost with you. Our article on consumer rights is here: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights
