What in dash cam is best?

In an effort to combat what appears to be an increase in incidents of 'cash for crash' I recently purchased a video camera which suction fits to the windscreen, however, after less than 6 weeks use it has malfunctioned and has been returned for a refund.

Do you have any advice as to which is best to buy?

I guess for best protection forward and rearward facing cameras are needed.
Is there a system that can be properly wired into the car electrics so that I don't have to keep removing it from the windscreen?
