How are driverless cars and taxis insured?

What is the situation with driverless cars or taxis regarding insurance? I read that most UK insurance companies will not cover them and they can only be covered by ones from outside the UK such as the US where most of their manufacturers are based. Also are any UK companies involved in putting them on the road?

Under present regulations driverless cars are only permitted in trial areas such as Milton Keynes and Heathrow Airport on a commercial basis only, and regulations are still in a transitional period towards the introduction of the Automated Vehicles Act which is scheduled for 2027. Any autonomous vehicle used on the UK public road must be insured, so it will be for the individual companies to ensure that their vehicle are fully compliant with the regulations.
