Why am I being asked to prove I can't afford to hire myself a car after an accident?

I'm a taxi driver and I was reversed into in a supermarket. There was damage to the back door/panel and the wheel. I was given a hire car as I needed to work and my car was considered unroadworthy. But now my solicitor is asking for bank statements, credit card and loan information as well as a copy of my taxi books for the period that I've had the hire car, which is about one month. My solicitor is saying she needs this information as a matter of urgency to supply the defendant's insurer with it and she is saying if I don't comply it will go to court. She says that the defendant's insurer are arguing that I have the money to hire a car myself and I have to prove I don't or I could be left with a hefty bill. Do I need to supply all this information?

That's because the other party's insurer has been ripped off by your accident management company over the cost of the hire car and you have to prove that you could not have hired it yourself or the court might rule that you have to pay for it.
