Can I reject a used car I bought that is leaking?

In April I bought a one previous owner low mileage 2023 Land Rover Defender 110 from a main Land Rover dealer. Since April it has hardly rained until the last week, when water started to be noticeably getting in and pooling on the passenger side floor on the passenger side front shelf.

The water seems to be getting in where the forward part of the front door meets the frame of the car because the door and frame are touching which is stopping the rubber seal working. It is difficult to accept that either the previous owner, driver or the main dealer did not know about this unless the car had always been garaged as it only happens when the vehicle is standing.

I would have thought this problem had either been there since it was new or it had been in a bump. Is there somewhere which keeps a list of vehicle that have been in accidents? The garage is collecting the car and giving me a free to use replacement until my vehicle if fixed, so no problems there.

What are my rights about getting a replacement car if the fix is not properly done. The Land Rover dealer has lots of similar vehicle on their website, so do they have to provide me a similar car with low mileage and the same spec at the good price I managed to get this one at? Or can they get away with just returning my money and I have to try and find another 4WD?

You can read our guide to rejecting a vehicle here - www.honestjohn.co.uk/advice/car-buying-advice/how-.../ - but an important point to note is that within the first six months after purchase the dealer has one opportunity to rectify the issue, and if they fail to do so you are entitled to a refund, minus a reasonable adjustment based on the amount of use you have had from the vehicle. A vehicle history check would show any previous recorded damage to the vehicle, but that would not completely eliminate the possibility of previous damage if a former owner had the repairs carried out from their own pocket.
