Can I let my son in law drive my car?
I would like to get a Kia Soul Electric. As a 75 old man if I stop driving for a short while could I loan my car to my son in law for him to insure as main driver as he would drive more than I would? I would wish to retain the ownership of the car. If I was to give him the car then this could count as a gift and could be taxed as inheritance.

You could loan the car to your son-in-law but as he would become the main driver he would need to take out his own insurance policy, but you could be a named driver. If you were then to give the car to him you would just need to inform the insurance company that your son-in-law was now the registered keeper once the vehicle had changed hands.
