Will fitting a space saver spare wheel affect my warranty and insurance?

I will shortly be taking delivery of a Toyota Yaris Cross Design with 17-inch wheels. This vehicle does not come with a standard space saver wheel and one is not available as an option or as Toyota accessory in the UK. However I have found online the genuine article as part of a kit for £270.84. The wheelshop.co.uk offer a compatible wheel and tool kit for £169.95. Other online retailers also offer similar kits.

Would the use of a cheaper and compatible non standard space saver kit affect the Toyota warranty and perhaps the car insurance? Or would it be better to use the original part?

The use of non-approved accessories would only affect your warranty in the event that the use of such accessories were to adversely affect the operation of the vehicle to the point where damage or a failure were caused, so in the case of a space saver spare wheel, as long as it was only used on a temporary basis until a new full-size tyre was fitted there should be no issues.

As for your insurance, we would suggest checking with your insurance company first, as this may be considered a modification.
