My car is a write-off, do I have to accept the offer?

I was in an accident and instantly, over the phone the woman said they would probably just write my car off

I wanted to get somebody to look at the car first to see if it made more sense to pay to have it repaired myself. But then I got an email from them saying "we are sending you this much" .

Nobody even looked at the car, I didn't agree to the amount or it being written off so where do I stand?

Can I tell them to hold their horses and get somebody to look at the car first before I decide or can they force me to have the car scrapped against my will?

Cheers

Usually it would be a claims handling company acting on behalf of the other party making the offer. You are not obliged to accept this but I would suggest you get a quote from a local repairer and check the value of your car using our tool here: www.honestjohn.co.uk/how-much-is-my-car-worth/ and then negotiate with the claims handler.
