  My brother needs a minimum 6 seat people carrier and has an absolute max of £7k budget. It will be for a mix of adults and kids so small rear seats are not a problem. He wants at least some boot space when fully laden with people and for this reason he has rejected the Zafira.

  My mother in law is looking to replace her current motor with a new or very recent s/h model (ie 59 plate) and she's narrowed the choice down to the following: Vauxhall Corsa Honda Jazz Ford Fiesta VW Polo Must be 1.4 ish engine and must be petrol. She'll be doing a lot of travelling from the W Mids to the SWof England.

  To sort out a debate we had in the office today. Are modern fuels and oils beneficial for old cars? If a common pushrod engine from the mid 60?s (Ford Zephyr for example) were to be completely rebuilt as original and then run using synthetic oil and modern fuel (with lead replacement additives if required), would it fare much better now, mile for mile than it would have when it was new?

  In fact the thread asking about bangernomic Vectras is one of the few recently mentioning them. Is it that the current cars are bland and average in comparison to the Ford, VW, etc. equivalents? There's a baby on the way, so I'm considering a small diesel estate, so.. are Astras any good ? Simon

  I have a very simple but quite urgent question that many br people can answer off the tops of their heads, but I can't because I've never owned one. Is and injected 1983 Pinto engine in a Ford Scorpio provided with hydraulic tappets? My hostess's example here in the mountains of S. Spain sounds tappety at 197k kilometres. Does it need its clearances adjusted, or have the hydraulic tappets worn out?

  Hi I own a ford fiesta xr2i 1.6 (H plate) with a Laser Line Immobiliser that i think was installed in the 90's. I seem to have lost the Fob to demobilise the car. I brought the car second hand from a friend and he does not have the alarm key for the device.

  An interesting article in today?s Telegraph when ?Motormouth?(Mike Rutherford) resisted the advances of high powered Ford PR men and wrote a pretty damning article on the new Fiesta. Admittedly a subjective view, but there seems to be a correlation between the amount of advertising manufacturers place in newspapers and the level of praise a new model gets given by the motoring correspondent.
