  Have noticed here in the South West that the baseball cap brigade are moving up market. It seems they are no longer interested in Ford/Vauxhall tinware, but are belting around in old Merc 190`s and old E 30 BMW`s. Is it any wonder that BeeM drivers (and soon Mercs) are getting such a bad reputation ????

  Why's it taken Ford so long to produce its hot Mondeo. This was due in January, and now it seems that it will be launched in May. Have they had problems? Looking at the spec its perhaps not as hot as it seems. 170 bhp in a car with the size and weight of the Mondeo will not win any prizes.

  Currently we use a Fiat Panda, mainly for my commute, and a Honda Shuttle (old but good) for the family. I am thinking of a Honda Civic or perhaps an Accord estate, or maybe a Corolla Verso or a Ford C-Max, of conceivably a Skoda. Ideally the budget is under £6,000.  Any thoughts??
• Another smoky Mondeo TDCi 31 Jan 2005 (Forum)
  I drove for a while behind a Mondeo TDCi yesterday, that was blowing big puffs of black smoke out of it's exhaust for most of the time. We were not travelling particularly quickly (60 mph max) and for part of the time we were travelling through a 30 mph limit. It was smoking badly under the most gentle acceleration and it is just one of many that I have seen do this. Is this not recognised as a widespread problem by Ford and have they tried to rectify it?

  OK, help needed as I am unable to make a decision. What should I buy? I want to spend max. £4,000 plus the value of my 205XLD (£500??). It must have at least four doors. I want reliability and good mpg. Also, I want cheap insurance and good handling and performance. Currently I'm thinking Mondeo 1.8 petrol (as Ford don't know anything abour diesels) or Xantia diesel (as PSA know everything about diesels!).
