• Ford C-MAX (2003 - 2010) - 03 1.8 Unstable Idle when slowing 17 Feb 2010 (Forum)
  I have a 1.8 petrol C-max that has developed an unstable idle problem when the car is moving. When I?m slowing to a stop the rev's will bounce from around 500 to 1000 rpm until the car comes to a complete stop then the engine will return to normal idle revs.

  There's a lot of them around and the reviews and reliability record seem good, but with a question mark over the usual French electrical gremlins. They seem to be very competitively priced compared to Fords etc. Does anyone have any thoughts about these? Unfortunately my wife only has an auto license so it needs to be a petrol auto which limits us somewhat. If I'm talked out of the Renault then I'll be looking at the Ford Galaxy/S-Max/Grand C-Max or the Mazda Takara which seem to be the only alternatives in my price range Budget is about £8000 but I could stretch to £10000 if necessary

  I have a 2003 Ford Fiesta 1.4 Zetec 5 door. I've calculated that it's doing 35 mpg and it feels like it should do more. I also have a 2007 2.0 Zetec Diesel S-Max and that does 45 mpg and it's a much bigger car. The fiesta is not thrashed and has a mix of dual carriageway and town driving typically, and probably 5% of the miles are motorway.
