For a few quid short of a grand (and we reckon there's room to haggle) this is one of those cars that, if you buy now, will be something of a curio in the really quite near future. If you look at the sudden surge in interest in models such as the Ford Sierra, Rover 800 and Vauxhall's own Cavalier in the past couple of years, buying this now could well be perfect timing. And despite what Clarkson said, they're not that bad. No, really - they're not.

  • Classic car insurance broker launches ‘future classic’ investment guide 27 Nov 2015 (News)
In 2005, Carole Nash worked with Richard Hammond (formerly of Top Gear) for an article that identified a number of future classics, including the Porsche 911GT3, and even the humble Ford Ka. Building on Hammond's suggestions, Carole Nash has sought additional guidance from the founder of Historic Automobile Group International (HAGI), Dietrich Hatlapa. A Carole Nash spokesman said, 'HAGI is an industry-standard monitor of the classic car sector, using the same financial methodology applied to investments in gold and property to provide transparency for the rapidly-growing and fast-moving market.

  • 'Agreed Value' Classics Often Under-Insured 26 Jun 2014 (News)
With investors shunning low interest savings in favour of classic vehicles, including early Land Rovers, 1950s to 70s Aston Martins and pre 1980s Ford Escorts, values have increased considerably. It is estimated that the average value of classic cars has risen by more than 250% between 2005 and mid-2013. • A Grand Monday: Montego 2.0 GSi 3 Mar 2014 (News)
The A ustin Montego  - along with its Maestro hatchback cousin - was BL's last chance at volume success. After years of unexceptional sales, where BL found itself overtaken first by Ford, then Vauxhall,  the mid-sized repmobile represented its maker's answer to the Sierra and Cavalier. History has already recorded that it missed its target, not even matching sales of the Marina and Ital, but eventually suffering the indignity of being outsold by its supposed niche bedfellow, the Rover 200.   But that doesn't mean it was a bad car.
