SMMT issues a statement on Volkswagen emissions scandal 23 Sep 2015 (News)
The latest emissions standard is Euro-6 – and all new cars registered in the EU from 1 September 2015 are required to meet this standard. A range of emissions is tested, including carbon monoxide, particulate matter, hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides (NOx). What is the test? It is a laboratory test, which ensures consistency and absolute comparability from one vehicle to another. -

VW Type 2 Samba sells for £67,500 22 Feb 2015 (News)
Recent history shows a 1967 VW Type 2 21 window bus was sold for $112,000 by Barratt-jackson at Scotsdale, Arizona on 16th January 2015. Another, a 1964, sold for $115,000. A 1967 Volkswagen Splitscreen Camper that used to belong to American blues singer-songwriter Seasick Steve sold for £29,500 at Coys' Autosport auction on 10 January. -
EC Makes ESP Mandatory 14 Apr 2009 (News)
In addition to ESP, predictive emergency braking and lane departure warning systems will be mandatory for commercial vehicles with a gross weight of more than 3.5 tons and for minivans and buses with more than eight seats from November 2013 (new model) and November 2015 (new registrations). Compulsory low rolling resistance tyres and tyre pressure monitoring systems will further reduce fuel consumption starting in November 2012. Additionally, more than 50 existing EU directives and more than 100 amendment regulations will be removed and replace by UN/ECE regulations wherever possible. -

And, due to the awkward installation of the distributor at the rear of small block Chevrolet 350 V8s, he went for the lighter Ford 289 V8 instead. Nevertheless, Healey Chevrolets were often seen at British speed hillclimbs in the 1960s, sometimes jacked up between runs while their owners changed the spark plugs via the front wheelarches (they wouldn't have had that problem with a Chrysler hemi). -

There are other companies that have impressive collections. Ford, for example, has some wonderful vehicles tucked away under Dagenham’s arches. But the Vauxhall collection is unique in that it has been part of the company’s public affairs department since its inception back in 1947 and has always been used to promote the company. -
Talbot takes top spot in Flying Scotsman rally 20 Apr 2016 (News)
While the Spirit of the Rally award went to Matthew Abrey and Jasper Hulscher in the 1931 Ford Model A, who found themselves taking the engine out of the car on Saturday night after the clutch failed. A new clutch was driven from Norfolk to Scotland arriving in the early hours. It was ‘all hands on deck’ to get the clutch fitted and car reassembled but the crew managed it, even checking out of the first time control on time. -

In recent weeks, we’ve seen once ubiquitous cars start to rise from the under-a-grand ‘bit of fun’ category to being worth a reasonable amount of cash. Three grand for a Ford Orion Ghia, for example, or Citroen XM Exclusive that reached the heady heights of £4,850 on eBay, and it wasn’t even a low mileage example. Indeed, I was offered £3,000 for my 1995 Rover 800 Vitesse just the other day, and it must be worth that much at least, because I said no. -
1929 Bentley 4.5 in Historics 6th June Auction 19 May 2015 (News)
1939 Fords were big news in January when the late Boyd Coddington's customised versions made megabucks in Barratt Jackson's Scottsdale Arizona auction. This car runs a 359 inch Chevy putting out between 350 and 400 horsepower through a 350 automatic with Lokar shift. -
Cabbie jailed after MGB death crash 23 Jan 2015 (News)
Last summer saw another fatal crash involving a classic car, when Lincolnshire resident Anne Pattrick was killed after being flung from a Ford Anglia 105E in which she was a passenger. The Anglia had been in collision with a Scania truck on the M1 motorway, as Anne and her friend – Linda Upsall – followed their husbands who were in another vehicle heading to a classic vehicle event at Gaydon. -

Concern Over Brake Disc Quality 31 May 2008 (News)
” Some BMWs have been fitted with the same size brake discs on a 2,000cc model as the more powerful 3,500cc engine vehicle, despite the obvious difference in performance and speed capability. Even the best selling Ford Focus uses the same size brake discs on the two-litre engine car as the 1,400cc family run-around. Mark Cornwall claims it is not just a BMW or Ford issue. He believes most car manufacturers are cutting corners on brakes. -
Peugeot 208 named European Car of the Year 2020 2 Mar 2020 (News)
The 208 finished top of the leader board with 281 points, while the Tesla Model 3 scored 242 and the Porsche Taycan 222. Fourth spot went to the Renault Clio, which also offered electric engines, while the Ford Puma finished fifth and the Toyota Corolla sixth. The European Car of the Year award is run by seven motoring titles with a panel of journalists voting on the award. -
