  • Renault Scenic (2003 - 2009) - 04 1.9 dci - EGR Valve clean or replace. 25 Sep 2007 (Forum)
When I declined, they said it might just be sticky and need cleaning but they don't do that. They just replace it. Are they trying it on do you think? I've only just bought the car 4 months ago from a Renault Dealer with a years warranty. Of course, Renault say this valve isn't covered by the warranty because it's a "component"! What do you reckon Honest John? s
  • Franchised bodyshop or insurance recom? 30 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I had an accident today where a foreign lorry pushed me into the central reservation, resulting in serious damage along the offside of my SLK. THe lorry carried on driving, so basically it's going to be my insurance that covers it. I have 2 choices in getting it fixed, either use a Merc bodyshop, or use an insurance-approved (Privilige) bodyshop. The latter comes with a free loan car. The former requires a quote, then an assessor visit, resulting in at least a 2 week delay before the repair can start.
  • Fiesta 1.25 16V Zetec S Cambelt Change 6 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I seem to remember reading on the Forum that it should be replaced at 6 years, regardless of mileage. We would like to keep running the car for another 3/4 years. Many thanks for reading.

FWIW, the car has never used oil between services. Thx, WdB
  • Insurance Claim Advice 20 Jul 2006 (Forum)
I recently had a costly collision with a foreign LHD lorry in this country (lorry pulled into my lane and hit my rear passenger side, I had a witness and as it happens the police were nearby and so helped me collect all of the drivers details). My car is waiting to be repaired and I will have to stump up the excess (£400) when I pick it up, I hope to recover this because I have legal cover and I?m claiming it as uninsured losses. The big BUT is that the lorry driver is from a non-EU country (Romania) and I have been lead to believe that it will be nearly impossible to recover my money.
  • S Reg 406 Coupe Cambelt 25 May 2006 (Forum)
Hi all My brother has had the above car for around 12 to 14 months. He bought it from a friend with 80 odd thousand miles on it. I recommended that he get a new timing belt kit on it as it hadn't been replaced previously. A mechanic friend of mine did it for him around 12 months ago.
  • Insurance Advice Please 10 May 2006 (Forum)
I seem to recall an article in Motoring Telegraph which said that car insurance companies do not take on new customers who are aged 75 or more. A couple I know are approaching this age. Their insurance has for several years been in the wife's name (to get better rate for her lower age?)
  • scenic fuel filter 23 Apr 2006 (Forum)
hi i have a renault scenic 2002 1.9dci.it has been suggested to me that i should change the fuel filter as it is a probable cause to my jerking at steady speeds then dissapearing on acceleration.it also seems to lack power on the lower end rev range.i have never had to change a fuel filter before or even know any one that has had to.what is the likelyness of this being the prob.the car has only covered 33600 miles and the wrong fuel was put in(previous owner)at 24000 miles, would the filter have not been changed then???also do i need to replace or can i clean with airline at work. any comments and feedback would be appreiciated cheers
  • Using forecourt Jet Washes 19 Mar 2006 (Forum)
I.e. does the timer on the clean water jet start when its used or are they on a timer?? Ideally I'd like to cover the car in foam, then rub it down with a mitt and wipe the alloys. Then, wash off with clean water but I don't want to run out of time!!! What sort of programs do they have? Local ones to me are Tesco and BP.
  • Polo 1.2S Driving Impressions 23 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Latest loan car is a three cylinder Polo 1.2S. Seems very well equipped with front fog lights , heated powered mirrors , air conditioning. The three cylinder engine looks tiny, the plastic cover having gone AWOL.Thank goodness there is no cambelt on one model.Lets's hope it sets a trend back to chains.
  • Accord Diesel Consumption - Update 11 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Following the correspondence regarding fuel consumption of the Accord diesel I'm happy to report that there has been a huge improvement. The car has now covered just over 11,000 miles and achieved 50 mpg on a journey from Rouen, where I filled up, to Calais, which was all autoroute except for the trudge through Rouen and the outskirts. At Rouen I had a consumption of 46 mpg from the Lot region, on a mixture of autoroutes and N and D roads some of which were which were narrow and steep.
  • Juggernauts & now Road Trains ? 11 Sep 2005 (Forum)
The damage that these monstrosities could inflict on our already third world road network surfaces would be appalling and us poor motorists will be penalised even more to cover the costs. If you happen to drive a low powered car with poor acceleration, the overtaking times are going to be doubled and could lead to even more accidents. As fuel prices rise to their unacceptable level, hauliers will push for their introduction to reduce their unit costs, but it ends up with additional taxation on the already over taxed motorist.

  • Should I buy 323ci on ebay 27 Jul 2005 (Forum)
The vehicle has full BMW service history and is HPI clear. What should I look for if I decide to view the car. Are there any particular problems with this model. Finally my current vehicle is a 1999 V Audi A3 1.8 T Sport which has covered 103,000 miles what would I be likley to achieve in a private sale?
  • 1995 FIAT Punto 1.7 diesel 29 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Am considering a) dropping engine at drivers side; b) removing steering pump completely (already have pipes off, radiator header tank off, air filter off, timing belt cover off); c) suicide or d) putting the thing back on and charging the battery up daily. Needless to say, it's the daughter's car not mine.
  • New Ford Focus 13 Jan 2005 (Forum)
My family and I may visit today a local showroom - i phoned and was adsvised to make an appointment - my feeling is that it is under cover in the showroom. They have the Ghia version. Does the car have the same TDCi engines and CVT as the FF-C Max? The CVT in the c-max has not been built for months and honest dealers are not accepting orders.

  • Track Day Headgear 18 Oct 2004 (Forum)
A motorbike shop seems the obvious place, but is this likely to be a full face job that is perhaps OTT for car work? I see TG's Liana drivers have something that doesn't cover the mouth and looks rather more comfortable. Or maybe that's so they can record the celeb making a bleeping noise. Any ideas?
  • 2002 corsa 1.2- electrical probs 13 Mar 2004 (Forum)
The car starts normally after a few minutes. The dealer had a good look after the first breakdown but didn't find anything wrong, and replaced the ignition switch connector just in case. But it broke down again today!
