  This causing burnt oil smoke being omitted, sometimes quite badly from the exhaust. After several trips to garages, Citroen specialists too, non could determine the fault. This left us even more determined to find the problem ourselves. Putting what information we had gathered we determined the problem was with the PC Valve.

• Citroen Xantia (1993 - 2000) - 00 2.0 HDi Fuel Problems 6 Apr 2009 (Forum)
  Xantia HDi 90bhp RHY engine, new Sept 2000, 108k, several previous owners, I've put about 1,200 miles on it. It cut out. Taken to my usual Citroen agent. Verdict HP Fuel Pump, estimated repair cost more than value of car. Got a pump (same part no) from ebay. Mate of son (time served, and experienced diesel mechanic) fitted this, but it won't start.

  Car is also likely to be a 2.0 petrol manual - I'd like the 2.1 diesel but the petrols around seem more "honest" mileage wise and/or haven't been driven to Mars and back. Now, I have access to a very highly recommended and well priced Citroen specialist who apparently is very familiar with the suspension on these (and all other Citroen cars). Admittedly not close to me (in London) but near my parents in Cheshire but accessible all the same bar some catastrophic failure.

  It was similar setting off in "sport" mode, but it hung onto the gears longer as I would expect. It was just the same when I selected gears individually. The car has visited a French Citroen dealer who pronounced it OK and correctly filled with fluid. It has visited the Citroen dealer in Huddersfield who suggested to f-i-l that he take it to the local auto gearbox specialist if he wasn't prepared to stump up the cash for a new gearbox.
