Citroen C2 Diesel - BobbyG
Sister and BiL have a C3 Diesel and Toyota Picnic Diesel. Due to both kids being in late teens and family rarely out in car together, they want to sell the Picnic (see classifieds) and trade right down to a C2 Diesel. This will also be used for teaching them to drive.

Anyone any experience of C2, what to look for, what specs to get? Any problems with them? HJ's CBCB says they are too new for any feedback yet and I can't recollect seeing any discussions on them in the forums?

Re the C2, as they like their C3 they are adamant thats the car they want. Any feedback?

Any reason why they're not simply keeping the C3?

The C2 uses the same engine, is not that much smaller but is less practical (fewer doors, less rear room) but will be no more econmical, probably less well specified and there'll almost certainly be a cost to change.

Sorry, they are keeping the C3 as well. They are getting rid of the Picnic for a C2 so they will have a C2 for kids to learn to drive in and BiL to use, and the C3 which my sister uses for her 50 mile daily commute.

In that case there aren't many pitfalls - C2 is to C3 as Lupo is to (old) Polo, basically.

Son has had a 1.4HDi SX since July, think he has only done about 8-9k in it so far but loves it. Pretty nippy, very economical and no problems at all so far (as you would hope!). Have only driven it a few miles on country roads myself but I liked the way it felt - good handling, good ride (firm but not harsh) and it felt as if you could chuck it around if you wanted to. Have also sat in the back and was surprised how much room there was - I'm about 6 foot and expected to be very squashed but wasn't - rear seats slide back and forwards. Wouldn't like to spend hours in the back though. Mind you he and 3 mates went from Leeds to Lake District in it for New Year and there were no complaints apparently. He reckons it cruises well (and quietly) on the motorway and I suspect that means he does about 85-90 mph. Boot small but room for their bags apparently. Tailgate is split so it does open right up and down. SX originally didn't have ABS but while he was waiting for the colour he chose to be delivered they changed the spec and he got ABS (and EBA I think) for same price. He also has A/C and single disk CD player. Interior seems decent quality also and nice colours (his is blue and grey I think.
I'd quite like one myself! Seems like quite a fun car - but it's not the car for bringing flat - pack furniture home in or taking garden rubbish to the tip! But I don't suppose youngster who are learning to drive mind that - probably more concerned with street cred and it seems to have that judging from comments he gets and "youngsters" who ask him about it.

Thanks for your feedback guys.

I've driven a C3 1.4 HDI (ok the 16v 92bhp version), fantastic engine, but the C2 only uses the 70bhp 8v unit.

Having also driven the C3 1.4 petrol and the C2 1.1, I wouldn't think twice about getting a C2 HDI. The C2 has a nicer drive than the C3 (it is not as tall).

If you have bought a Citroen before, they are currently writing to past buyers sending them further discount vouchers that you can use on top of published discounts and anything you can negotiate with the dealer!

BobbyG, watch what colour you choose, some are awful combinations. My dealer described one as lilac with dog poo colour interior.... be warned. The silver body with blue interior is nice and lively though.

Ben, any further info on these additional vouchers? My sister bought her C3 (53 plate) brand new from the dealer?

I bought a pre reg 04 plate C2 LX in September. I then discovered that from Aug, all models have ABS and mine doesn't.. cos it was made in Jan 04! Anyway - I'll remember HJs ash tray tip next time! (take it out and look at the date stamp). Apart from that hassle, it has done everything asked of it. It is ecomomical (tank averages 60 - 67 mpg), cruises quietly and is very comfortable. At motorway speeds there is still enough go to make for hassle free lane changing. Handling is good, but it does occasionally hop disconcertingly on when cornering on uneven surfaces - something I never noted on my Pug 106. On the LX and SX, the seats slide about 10cm to make just about adequate legroom for rear passengers, and they also tumble fold. What I didn't realise though was that to do this, you have to put the front seats right forward - and they then will not go back very far. To drive, I then have to sit pretty hunched up - and I am not tall - how a 6+ footer would manage I am not sure! Loading over the folded down lower half of the boot lid is a pain too. Apart from those niggles it is great! You can manage 3 pasengers and their luggage but no more! If you don't need to carry passengers - or rarely - who needs a bigger car!

To find out the day your Citroen was made you need the build date code which is on the sticker on the drivers door frame.

To decode it, search for "orga citroen" in google.

Secondly, about these vouchers, I don't know the elegibility for receiving some, but a call to another dealer or Citroen head office on 0870 606 9000 wouldn't harm. Dad threw his in the bin, I got a call from my local dealer asking if I had received any.
