Pre-Registered v. Nearly New 14 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Hello Everyone Fairly soon, I plan to change my 4 year old Vectra CDX DTI. I bought it pre-registered from a car supermarket at £8000 under list and its covered 90,000 fairly trouble free miles. Though I would like a 'premium' car, my budget would only buy a car a few years old, particularly if I want a similar specification (leather, climate etc). -
Audi A3 CD player 10 Jun 2004 (Forum)
A friend has just purchased the TDI version so I will ask what his CD player is getting up to. Should I push Audi to replace the CD player or should I wait until it goes altogether. The car is only 9 months old from new and I don't really want to wait. By the way, all those interested in my engine oil usage saga, the car went in for them to check that out and they found nothing wrong. -
Toyota Prius - Used car advice 22 Sep 2016 (Forum)
I have to admit being drawn to the techy aspect of driving a hybrid, I like gadgets :). I am a little scared of buying a car that old though, when i could get something more recent for the same money. But the idea of doing all those miles in such a small car is a little depressing. So, I've gone on far too long, if you have made it this far you deserve a medal, please help me! -
hire car companies 20 Oct 2019 (Forum)
went to pick up a hire car from one of the biggest brand hire car firms. one of the tyres completely bald... told them no way I would be driving it they faffed on and took an age to get another car had a look around their site, standard of cleanliness of the cars they are handing to the punters is very poor, a six year old could wash the cars better many a vulnerable person would have driven off in that car, indeed im not convinced they wont have just handed the car onto the next punter so all in all not impressed at all -

HJ writes "I don't recommend old cars and certainly don't want to get myself entangled in endless 'practical motoring' type enquiries that take up far too much time and generate no revenue." Fair enough, a motoring journalist deserves to receive an income for sharing his expertise- but are we to conclude that HJ generates income by recommending certain brands of new cars ... tyres, fuel, etc.? -

Recommendations needed please. 31 May 2019 (Forum)
My son will be leaving University this summer. He will be 22, and quite sensible (not a boy racer lol). I need recommendations for a good car to help him buy. I would like something which is possibly 3/4 years old max, about £4,000 to £4,500 at a push £5,000. Somewhere between 1200 and max 1400 cc. A good reliable solid car ... any suggestions would be very welcome. -
Toyota Corolla - Ariel 2 Jan 2019 (Forum)
I have a T registration Toyota Corolla with a radio ariel that goes over the top front of the car. I have a new radio that has replaced the original factory radio and consequently the sound is better but is there a way I can improve the signal. My ariel is a screw on type and it's not loose, or am I stuck with the ariel I have because it's an old car? -
N/A - 1000miles a year oil change 1 Oct 2018 (Forum)
I despair HJ Agony column today advising a OAP to get his 5yr old car oil changed every year. The oil is probably as clean as the day it went in there with this sort of use. The car obviously needs an annual MOT so feel sure that this would cover any safety contingencies for him. -
Mazda 2 1.5 Sport (2011) - Heavy Tyre Wear on Mazda 2 6 Apr 2015 (Forum)
Having got through a set of original Toyo tyres in 15,000 miles my car has covered since new, is there an alternative wheel/tyre that can be fitted or will this upset the speedo etc. I hate low profiles so much I look at cars with the old fashion rubber with absolute envy. -
Volkswagen Polo - Petrol cap 3 Nov 2014 (Forum)
I can't open the flap to get to the fuel cap. Is this a motorised mechanism? Because i have an extended warrentee on the car from the place i bought it from as the car is only 4 years old and hasnt even got 30,000 on the clock. They are refusing to repair it as it is only a wear and tear item and not mechanical or electrical. -

2000 (W) 1.2 Corsa - Vauxhall Corsa won't start 8 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Car won't start. All 'normal' lights lit on dashboard, turn key and all we get is a clicking sound from engine. Took battery out and re-charged - no effect, still won't start. Battery is original in car - 10 years old, although still has green marker showing on top of battery.
