  • Motorway driving 25 Nov 2004 (Forum)
All in alll a lot of people on the motorways need to get over themselves. There is an awful lot of self-importance and selfishness. And a willingness to risk ones life to gain an extra yard. Really, life is too short for the petty, irritable and stressed behaviour to be witnessed on the motorways. Well, certainly mine is and over the last 10 years I have changed from probably the most bad-tempered and stressed driver on the roads to one who relaxes the whole way through it, even when I'm late - mind you, 10 years of driving in South America will do that for you.
  • Fifteen New Middle East Driving Regs 13 Jan 2004 (Forum)
It is tradition to honk your horn at cars in front of you that do not move three milliseconds after the light turns green. 13. To avoid injury in the event of a collision or rollover, it is important to exit your vehicle thru the windshield right away. Wearing your seat belt will only impede your hi-velocity escape from danger. 14. Remember that the goal of every GCC driver is to get ahead of the pack by whatever means necessary. 15.
  • 5 grand to spend and enjoyment wanted 30 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Rear wheel drive. Light. Probably not ideal for a lot of motorway driving. And they aint cheap, and the Jap imports (which Honest John isn't keen on?) miss out on that UK car image and therefore the resale value? Porsche 944 (really). Would have to be a mid to late 80s model, I guess. Insurance will hurt? I don't think I can bring myself to blow my whole 5k on a nearly 20 year old, mega high mileage motor.

That would be embarrassing. Some money for the kid's graduation or a bottle of Chivas at Christmas, and very important you make a note of his birthday and send him something. Not so bad, huh? :=) G he says in UK they fail your car on purpose so they can charge you to fix it. True or not?

  • Used Car Under £4k 5 Jun 2023 (Forum)
Budget = £4k Must be automatic (I can drive manuals and have one now but want an auto) Comfort/luxury is important Definitely not interested in a small car (no Fiesta's, Corsa's, Micra's etc) I would love a Jag (after a bit of research I'd be looking at an XF I think and it seems it would be a very good idea to avoid an X-type because of the quality/faultsbut happy to listen to your thoughts) or a Merc (I had a C180 Kompressor Sport a good few years ago and it was great but at the time the fuel costs were an issue) - one of my concerns for getting a Jag I've never owned one and I don't have bottomless pockets so upkeep is a slight concern.
  • Red Route fines going up. From This is Money. 7 Aug 2021 (Forum)
Making the announcement, Siwan Hayward, TfL's director of compliance and policing, said: 'London's network of red routes plays a vital role in keeping people moving across the capital and it's really important that everybody follows the rules that are in place to keep roads clear and to keep people safe.  'We'd much rather people follow the rules than fine them, and the proposed increase in fines is intended to increase compliance with the rules and make streets safer, cleaner and less congested for everyone.
  • Octavia Estate - Stick with petrol/diesel or change to hybrid? 26 Oct 2018 (Forum)
I will be moving from France to Portugal next year but with the recent news about phasing out diesel, then petrol, and the emphasis on hybrid & electric through much of Europe I've started to think ahead about a new car as fuel types can have an impact on import taxes etc, etc. I currently have 2 vehicles, a petrol Octavia estate and a diesel Ford Transit Custom Kombi and have now found that only a large estate type will be needed as the 9 seater Kombi is hardly used these days.

  • Late Licensing Penalty Fee 2 Nov 2014 (Forum)
I then contacted the debt recovery company to advise them of my appeal so they didn't think I was not acting on their letter. My credit status is important to me at this time as I am trying to buy a house, the last thing I need is a black mark against my name. I spoke to a woman from Inter-Credit who basically bullied me into paying the fine. She was rude, she upset me to the point where I was crying on the phone as she would not listen to anything I said and treated me like I was a criminal.

  • Saab - the future 10 Aug 2012 (Forum)
China, particularly is likely to force the take-up of EVs because of the twin problems of having to import ever-increasing volumes of oil and the smogs which are blighting Chinese mega cities. But, while using the Trollhattan factory to get the 9-3 ePower onto the market makes obvious sense, will the Phoenix-based EV also be built in Sweden when its main market is so far away and the EV technology underpinning it comes from Japan?
  • Effective Goal Setting 25 Jun 2012 (Forum)
A motivation exercise involving paper clips demonstrates the importance of effective goal setting. Divide employees into two small groups. Ask one group to list as many ways as they can think of to use a paper clip. This group usually lists 10 to 15 uses. Ask the second group to list 25 different ways to use a paper clip.
  • The driving test 25 Jan 2012 (Forum)
While good instructors understand that experience on a wide variety of roads in different conditions gives young people the best chance of survival, all too many merely educate up to the existing test standard. Knowledge of parking, emergency stops and low speed manoeuvres is important but dealing with high speed corners, bad weather, and overtaking are far more vital skills. The recent report from the IAM The fast and the curious*1, found that new drivers themselves felt unprepared for real life scenarios and would welcome extra help.

I understand that the BIG money jobs are class one artic and to be making 30k + you've gotta put the hours in and be out all the time (in most cases) but wouldnt I be more than likely to find what Im lookin for if I only did my class 2 and was happy to accepte far less (more like about 18k). Over the years I've learned that job satisfaction is more important than the money (to me). Is it worth me investing 1k or how ever much it costs to do my class 2 with the hope of getting work where I can be home at night ? ? Sorry for the long post, thanks for any info in advance
  • n/a - possibly scratched a car, didn't leave details 17 Jul 2010 (Forum)
Also, the more I thought about it, I am realising that my actions seem to be tantamount to leaving the scene of an accident.  So I got off at the next station (my destination yesterday wasn't *that* important), and got the next train back (about an hour later?).  I drove back to the Tesco's, but the other party's car was gone. I then tried to decide if calling the police was the right thing to do -- the reason not to, being, that it's a waste of their time.

Ignore the stone hauling, quarry type, and car haulage etc type vehicles (they usually cause no problem because of the routes and way they are paid; time is not too important on their pay). But pay attention mostly to curtain sided arctics and/or wagon and drag units (mostly foreign) and obvious supermarket lorries. An avaerage route of these get in your way types are 1.
