  • Renault Clio III (2005 - 2009) - 07 1.4 intermitent problems just after starting 13 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Surely a garage mechanic can work out what is wrong, looking on the web i thought it could be something to do with an ECU failing to tell the choke to increase fuel when its first needed. First time in garage they did a diagnostic and said there was a recognised Clio problem and replaced the accelerator cable that was fouled up, BUT ITS JUST THE SAME.
  • Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - 04 2.0 HDI Problem after cambelt change 6 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I gave up and called the AA who recovered the vehicle to the dealer. My assumption was that it was a timing issue but the dealer insists that they checked the timing, ECU etc and it was all correct. On further inspection, they found 2 cracked rocker arms which they have replaced. They have now given the car back with a clean bill of health and it seems to sound, feel and drive ok.
  • Renault Espace (1997 - 2002) - 99 2.0 Autobox, either repair or change to manual? 13 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I can find the dash replacement trim to change from the auto shift. Has anyone done this before? I am concerned about certain requirements. I think the box and ECU are related so how do I create the relationship with the new box. Are the drive shats the same. Before anyone suggests sending it to the big renault heaven in the sky, which would probably be the the cheapest solution, I like it and I would like even more the fact that I beat it even with an average human brain.
  • Vauxhall Corsa B (1993 - 2000) - 99 1.2 cuts out and sudden loss of power 28 Apr 2009 (Forum)
However a couple of times I have stalled it at junctions when the lights have changed to green, other times the car will just suddenly loose power and will have to put the throttle down heavier and its all fine again. The clutch seems fine. There is no ECU warning light on and I have checked the clutch cable which seems to be ok. I am now thinking it might be a fault witht the throttle cable? I adjusted this when I first got it as there seemed far too much play in it but I put it back after recieiving some advice that I may make it worse.
  • Volkswagen Polo III (2000 - 2002) - 01 1.4 Engine Warning Light (Engine emissions ligh 13 Dec 2008 (Forum)
This is particularly annoying when it occurs at a car park exit barrier!! In terms of once it's started it still drives fine though. I've had the ECU fault codes read, then reset, then the light comes on around 30miles later. I paid 170quid last week to have the EGR valve replaced, as this was on the fault code. Within an hour, the light was back on, so I took the car back to my local specialist who'd replaced the EGR valve, the same code came up, citing the EGR valve and MAP sensor as the issue.
  • Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - Need some help/advice with this. 3 Sep 2008 (Forum)
This car has had several faults and has been back to the dealer 15+ times (lost count) to have various things sorted including; - Water leak in spare wheel well. - Poor fuel economy/sluggish acceleration (fixed by updating ECU). - Faulty CD Player (replaced, still faulty). - Bits of trim falling off. In my opinion this is bad enough, however the biggest problem has been the boot catch which regularly opens itself at random and for no apparent reason.
  • Renault Megane (1996 - 1998) - 96 1.4 (8v) Failure to start after running fine - 5 Aug 2008 (Forum)
They reckon it was caused by a battery not at its peak (unlikely as it's only about a year old), and found some fault codes in the ECU which they cleared & it was then OK. Similar thing happened on saturday - wouldn't restart after being parked for 5 minutes. Turned over fine but wouldn't fire - seemed pretty much like an immobiliser problem again.
  • Peugeot 307 SW (2002 - 2008) - 03 HDi 110bhp Limp Home mode 30 Oct 2007 (Forum)
However on taking the car back it had gone into "limp home" mode under 2500revs. Took it back to the Peugeot dealer and they found the following ECU faults (all permanent): 1. Fuel pressure signal. Signal short circuit to positive, open circuit 2. Differential exhaust pressure signal. Coherence of the differential pressure when stopped 3. Additive system.
  • Pug 205GTi 1.6 - Low tickover & cut out. 27 Jun 2007 (Forum)
t affect it, nor does the stereo of the changer, or the satnav plugged into the lighter. I?ve had the alternator tested and its perfect, I?ve also had the ECU plugged into a diagnostic, but it cant be read, which is disturbing, the diagnostic just says to turn the ignition on - when it already is. So, I've taken it to a couple of places now but with her being a pug, they aint sure.
  • EGR valve and Vacuum pump (Vectra) 29 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Since I bought after some miles the Engine Management light (EML) pop up and the power is reduced, but even without the light on the car is not to much responsive specially after reaching 3000 revs it seems that the acceleration its slowly. After the EML pop up the "P1125 - Critical System Malfunction 2" is stored in the ECU. I have been doing some research and found some possible causes, so I though and realize that would be the EGR Valve, I start asking quotes in eBay and other places and because of the confusion about which EGR valve would be on of them send me two diagrams with the possible valves or pumps, in one of them I could see a valve that I couldn?

  • 306 1.8 idle control valve 5 Sep 2005 (Forum)
1994 306 1.8i SR Sedan with Magneti Marelli 8P ECU. Whilst curing a pinking problem (see separate post) I decided to cure the slightly hunting idle and ease of stalling when coming off idle to drive away that has developed gradually over the past year.
  • Focus TDCi smoke problems 25 Aug 2005 (Forum)
I spoke to the mechanic there and we reckoned we would be wasting our time taking it out if it wasn't smoking so he said give it a week of your own driving and see what happens. If I'm not happy he can then update the ECU with all the latest codes etc. Now then, after doing a forum search, I'm pretty sure that there's a new EGR valve design, does anyone have info on the TSB relating to the EGR problem and also any general information that I may not be aware of.
  • Focus 115 TDCi 9 Mar 2005 (Forum)
A week passed and you guessed it all the above symptoms started again, it has been back with them for nearly a week and they phoned me today stating they couldn't replicate the faults for long enough to get a fault code on the ECU. They stated that Ford were not particularly helpful this time round, I have taken the car back and although I haven't experienced the starting problem, it has been smoking heavily again! I will wait for the starting problem before taking it back as they say they can?
  • rover 216 cutting out & erratic idling 12 Dec 2004 (Forum)
when idling like this it will often correct itself after a while or if I blip the trotle the revs will rise then drop back to normal. It went in for its MOT and they looked at the ECU which reported that the temperature sensor was faulty. They claimed that this is a common false reading so voided the error. They found that the stepper settings were wrong so adjusted them. All seemed fine for about a month when it started playing up again with the same problems.
  • Sick Alfa 156 2.0 TS Man 9 Apr 2002 (Forum)
I am sure that when I first had the car it drove much better and was less erratic/jerky at low rev's/speeds, more smooth in gear changes. If this is a problem, what could I suggest the tech to look at, my guess it throttle pot/ecu.... Thirdly the car has in the last 3 weeks developed a squeek from the front of the dash in front of driver, any ideas? Apologies for the long email but I refuse to sell this car as when it works it is fantastic, and having solved one fault am eager to sort the others out.
  • 2010 vauxhall zafira 1.9 CDTi diesel - ZAFIRA DIESEL 1,9 CDTi GOING INTO LIMP MODE 22 Sep 2023 (Forum)
Earlier this year when it happened, I took the car to a vauxhall dealer and they ran some diagnostics on it and said there were no problems with the car and there were not any error messages on the engine-control unit (ECU). They then advised me that once a month, I should drive on the motorway for 20-30 minutes in 4th gear with the revs between 3,000 – 4,000 rpm and that should rectify the problem. As it is a diesel, I always try to avoid too many short journeys an do try to give the car a good run every few weeks including the motorway runs with revs over 3,000 rpm.
  • Fiat 500 1.4 Lounge 2008 - Climate Control Fan Blower Problem. 5 Jun 2023 (Forum)
Incorrect code reporting of the blower fault? Does the Body Control Unit (BCU)/ECU have any control over the Climate Control system? Take the car back and get the system emptied then retest. Is there an under pressure inhibit switch which would negate the above test?
  • Peugeot 308 Verve 2010 - P1338 - Misfire Cylinder No.2 (Losing the will) 13 Apr 2021 (Forum)
The only option I'm left with is taking it to official Peugeot garage and having a full investigation into the ECU which is going to cost me a small fortune. Please help!
  • Range Rover P38, 1995, Manual Diesel - Range Rover P38 - Diesel not starting/running 6 Nov 2019 (Forum)
Timing is all correct along with fuel injection pump timed. No start. 4. Car computer and engine ECU are synchronised.  4. Engine starts on easy start but does not idle. Black smoke. 5. Compression test passed all within accepted values for 178,000 miles on clock. 6. Valves seem to be moving ok.
