  • Fiesta Diesel Mk 4 - Fuel hoses 2 Apr 2010 (Forum)
The fuel hoses that connect onto the Bosch fuel filter, are these are prone to fail? The connectors don't seemed to be gripping the pipes at all and I can easily slid the hoses off with a gentle pull.  The car refused to start the other day and I wondered if I had air in the system through these poorly connecting hoses.
  • Fuel Additive - Scam? 15 Oct 2008 (Forum)
At the first 10,000 mile service of my car, at the main dealer, I was amazed to be asked if I wanted to pay for a £16 bottle of Havoline fuel system cleaner. Amazed because I thought car manufacturers did not recommend any fuel or oil additives. I declined. Anyone else had this attempt to get even more money out of them?
  • Ford Transit (2006 - ) - Fuel saving through mapping. 29 Sep 2008 (Forum)

  • What if car runs out of fuel? 17 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Will it start running again if some fuel is poured in its tank? Or running dry will cause serious damage to engine? Is the situation different in petrol or Diesel cars? I'm asking because recently on occasions I found that car ran out of fuel slightly away from petrol station and blokes are filling from a jerry can.
  • Higher detergent fuel??? 5 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Could someone please tell me what is meant by higher detergent fuel? I currently use bog standard BP unleaded (95 RON) but was reading an article the other day which talked about swapping to a higher detergent fuel ... but I don't know what that would be. Local station only sells unleaded (95 RON), super unleaded (97 RON) and diesel.

  • Peugeot 306 LX HDI Estate fuel filter wh 18 Dec 2004 (Forum)
I bought a Peugeot 306 LX HDI Estate (registered in April 2000) in March 2003 and, after a few months, it developed a loud whistle that is coming from the fuel filter. The whistling only starts several seconds after starting the engine. It sometimes stops whistling, but is mostly continuous. I have recently replaced both the fuel filter housing and fuel filter, but the whistling still occurs with the replacement items.
  • Ford Fiesta - TDCI 55 plate. Air in the fuel lines, again! 19 Jul 2020 (Forum)
While the weather is this nice, thought it would be an ideal time to investigate where the air is getting in, into the fuel lines.  As of November 2019, I had injector seals replaced and as of June 2017, had fuel pipes, primer and pressure sensor replaced. I also replaced the fuel filter, atleast 2 years ago (the bolt that holds it in place is no longer in as the thread in the plastic housing as threaded away I believe)  Sprayed the fuel lines, primer and line connections with leak detector and couldn't find anything.
  • Any Carburetted - Fuel On The Roof 9 Aug 2019 (Forum)
GF's thesis is finished so phase one of the (probably 5-Year) Plan to Catch my Kangaroo, I'm bypassing the fuel pump with gravity feed. Have 2 cans of Guinness and 2 of Lager as extinguishants, but I'm thinking I should perhaps get more Guiness, which I think will work better. I had the fuel pump delivering into the fuel can, but (presumably due to a lack of back pressure), it seems rather fast and would probably overflow the can if run for very long.
  • Is a large increase in fuel consumption a sign of the DPF regenerating? 28 Apr 2017 (Ask HJ)

  • Does sport mode increase fuel consumption? 4 Apr 2017 (Ask HJ)

  • ml 270 cdi 2000 - air bubble between fuel filter and pump 27 Oct 2014 (Forum)
I have ml 270 cdi,2000.Last Sunday the car cuts off three times before I could reach home.I waited for approx 15 minutes in each cut off,and later started on normally.I realised that the pipe from fuel to the pump was bent and probably suffocated the enjectors.I have corrected that, but the problem of the air bubble is still there. This morning I started it,kicked on well.Switched off the engine and I moved to the engine bay and looked directly in the fuel filter.I could see the air bubble introduced coming from the fuel filter.I have fitted the new o rings in the fuel line.
  • Are performance fuels worth the extra cost? 2 Jun 2014 (Ask HJ)
Is standard or higher octane petrol used in EU economy testing? And is it worth paying the extra in an ordinary car?
  • Ford Fiesta 1.4 Diesel 2009 - Ford Fiesta 2009 , unable to add fuel additive 3 Mar 2014 (Forum)
I tried a funnel and flexible hose with the same result, prod and poke but the fuel filler neck has been designed to incorporate contact points that open an internal fuel flap only when the larger diesel pump nozzle applies pressure on them. Any thoughts would be welcome .
