  • Aston Martin DBR1 to go under the hammer at Monterey auction 12 Jul 2017 (News)
The win at Nürburgring also played a major role in securing Aston Martin the 1959 World Sportscar Championship victory—the first time a British manufacturer had done so. Nürburgring would mark DBR1/1’s final appearance as a Works entrant, but it would return under privateer Essex Racing Stable in both 1961 and 1962. The Aston was then sold to the Honourable John Dawnay, future Viscount Downe and Aston Martin Owner’s Club president, under whose ownership it saw considerable historic racing success in the early 1980s, piloted by veteran Mike Salmon.
  • A Grand Monday: Alfa Romeo 916 Spider 26 Dec 2016 (News)
Black leather, a good spec and Alfa's gutsy 2.0-litre Twin Spark engine add further appeal - the Twin Spark is actually the better option in the Spider, as the V6's extra weight adds to the body flex inherent of cars without a roof. If we were buying a GTV, we'd go V6 all the way, but in one of these, not so. The MoT history is interesting.

  • Skoda Fabia vRS (2003-2007) 19 Jun 2016 (News)
The 131PS is certainly enough but what makes the Fabia vRS such a good car is the sheer torque – 310Nm to be exact and famously more than a Porsche Boxster S of the time. The fact it was fitted with a six-speed gearbox as standard was unusual at the time, and means you rarely have to work the engine hard, instead you can leave it in gear and let the grunt propel you along.
  • Five Grand Friday: Audi A4 Cabriolet 14 Aug 2015 (News)
For £5k you're getting a lot of convertible for your money, especially when you consider that the A4 Cabriolet would have cost at least £25,000 when new. That was for a base model and this S line example has the full black nappa heated leather sports seats along with a Bose sound system. As you can see, it looks well cared for with no wear on the driver's seat or side bolster. The back seats look like they've never been sat in.
  • £2.9m for Ex-Works Racing Aston 29 Jun 2015 (News)
Also in the sale, a 1984 Porsche 911 3.2-litre Carrera Coupé, belonging to former Top Gear presenter James May, sold for £51,750, and ex-Rolling Stone Bill Wyman’s 1966 Mercedes-Benz 250 S sold for £20,700, whilst his striking 1971 Citroën Maserati SM sold for almost double estimate at £61,980.
  • Jaguar XK120 restoration project to go under the hammer 4 Jun 2015 (News)
The mileage of 51,900 is thought to be correct, and the car underwent light restoration in the 1990s. (Estimate: £8,750-£10,250). Other Jaguar entries include a 1990 XJR-S. This genuine JaguarSport car is believed to be one of only 80 still recorded in the UK and carries an estimate of £4750-£5750. Another rarity is the 1987 Daimler Double Six Series 3.

  • Royal Maserati returns home before auction 5 Mar 2015 (News)
It was then registered to Princess Aly Khan at 76 Eaton Square, London, where it now met with Maserati’s new flagship, luxury four door saloon, the Quattroporte S. The car will go under the hammer at Coys Spring Classics auction at the Royal Horticultural Society in London and is estimated at £38,000-£42,000. Chris Routledge, managing partner of Coys, said, ‘This car is one of only eight right hand drive examples produced, with just 28,300 miles and two owners from new.’ The Quattroporte remained in the Princess’ ownership for a further 25 years, during which time the she re-married to the 2nd Viscount Camrose, the former chairman of the Daily Telegraph, and was latterly known as Lady Camrose.
  • 2nd Classic Auction Same Day: H&H Buxton 12th November 2014 10 Nov 2014 (News)
With 4 years in production v/s 1 year for the Model B V8, Model A Fords are ten to a dollar in the USA. But this 1930 roadster looks nicely original and could make its £14,000 - £16,000 estimate. There’s also a 1930 Model A Fordor sedan, estimated at £10,000 - £12,000 and a 1930 Model A Tudor (main photo), estimated at £9,000 - £11,000.
  • The future classic cars killed by the scrappage scheme 30 Sep 2014 (News)
What we can now reveal, however, are some of the figures relating to the classic cars also involved in the scheme. No fewer than 45 examples of the Jaguar XJ-S, for example, were traded in and scrapped, as were 14 Porsche 944s, 18 BMW 6-Series, 88 Citroen 2CVs, 29 Peugeot 205 GTis and 22 Reliant Scimitars of various types. And if you’re wondering why there aren’t as many large saloons of the ’80s and ’90s on the roads as there used to be, it’s partly because the scrappage scheme saw the loss of 273 Saab 9000s, more than 700 Volvo 740s, 100-plus Ford Granadas and – amazingly – over a thousand Rover 600s.
  • Curios: Triumph Lynx 9 May 2014 (News)
.  In engineering terms, the Lynx was straightforward - combining much thinking from the SD1 and the TR7, and also offering an intriguing insight to what lay beneath the planned Dolomite-replacing Triumph SD2. It was based on the TR7's platform, but had its wheelbase extended by a full 12-inches, while longer passenger doors were incorporated in order to balance the side view of the car and give good access to the rear seats. Development of the Lynx was stepped up, following commencement of TR7 production in September 1974 and the Lynx was beginning to look like an appealing addition to the range, to fight cars such as the Ford Capri.
  • Goodwood Festival of Speed: Jaguar Project 7 takes a bow 10 Jul 2013 (News)
Powering it is a tweaked version of Jaguar’s vocal 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine in 550PS/680Nm form. That should give the Project 7 a useful boost over the V8 S it's based upon. One thing we do know is that it's going to sound good – Project 7 features a free-flow exhaust system with a ceramic finish. We'll have to wait and see how well it drives, but JLR's feted chassis guru Mike Cross is confident: 'It’s visceral in every sense – its response, its sound and its sheer performance.
