  • Wrong Spark plugs! 11 Jun 2002 (Forum)
Fit a "non-genuine" spark plug in one of the latest Z-range Vauxhall petrol engines and the electronic control unit will not only recognise it but also categorise it, we are told, under a "misfire detection code." Then engine speed will be limited until you replace the plug and have the ECU reset at your friendly local Vauxhall dealer workshop. A Vauxhall spokesman says, rather aoplogetically, that his compnany is by no means alone in this and that it is "all to do with compliance with the latest exhaust emissions standards" end quote OK then gentlemen, please discuss.
  • Unintentional Acceleration Syndrome 6 Jun 2001 (Forum)
The problem is that any engine might suddenly increase revs at any time, either due to a minor fault, a hiccough, or because the ECU decides it needs to increase revs to protect the cat from unburned fuel. So any driving instructor or any car salesman who tells drivers to only use their right foot when driving an automatic is directly responsible for these accidents.
  • Kia Ceed 3 - Dual Clutch Transmission review 22 Nov 2017 (Forum)
It creeps bit faster than TC auto. This is mentioned in handbook. I guess because it is dry clutch, the ECU needs to keep the rev bit higher to prevent stalling. In my TC auto, I often kept the car stationary in slight uphills doing nothing. The TC forward force usually cancelled out roll back due to gravity.
  • DVLA Court Case has any one been to court with the 16 Jun 2015 (Forum)
We had a car that broke down canbus ,ecu failure.. all the nice easy repairs :-/ , NOT!  Anyway the first garage sent off the ECU and they couldn’t fix it.. so it went to another and they did.. then it didn’t work still, so had to wait for a mobile VAG comm..
  • Nissan Qashqai 1.6dci diesel 2015 - Nissan QQ - multiple dash lights 17 Nov 2023 (Forum)
Took it to Nissan Dealership today, and they couldn't specify the fault. They said it could be the IPDM/ECU, and gave me a quotation of £1,900 to replace these. Current fault codes: P0380 - Glow plugs (historic) U0111 - Communication error C1130 - Engine signal (I think this is intake air temperature sensor, because this is historic) C1A26 - ABS (this may be Forward Emergency Braking or Traction) Lights on Dash - S/S failure, battery light, Red EML light, Anti slip light and forward emergency braking light  I think the main issue is U0111 - Communication error.
  • Peugeot 508 - Peugeot 508 2019 engine and clutch failure 2 Nov 2023 (Forum)
Then in September 2023 when exiting a roundabout, the car totally cut out with what was diagnosed by the RAC as a ECU failure but later investigation when the garage eventually accepted it some weeks later was a snapped timing chain and a whole new engine. Luckily I had a Peugeot extended warranty which agreed a replacement engine but on removing said engine the garage said it need a new clutch too!

  • Skoda Octavia vRS 2019 - Skoda RS problems 17 Sep 2021 (Forum)
But the main issue is the oil sensor which has been replaced 6 times, along with the cable, the ECU has been reset and yet I still get the message on the virtual cockpit: "Oil sensor faulty" Please visit workshop and this appears and disappears with an increasing number of times and then disappears again.
  • Honda Accord - 2004 Accord v 2008 Mondeo mk 4 24 Jun 2020 (Forum)
Does anybody have any advice for me when looking at these cars? With RE: to the Mondeo, I understand the ECU is behind the passenger-side bumper, so any indication of damage around that region is likely a walk-away situation, and any rattling while the clutch is depressed could indicate a dual-mass flywheel problem.
  • Audi A4 Avant - 2003 A4 Avant error codes P0102, P1290, P1137 ... 1 Jun 2017 (Forum)
I have had the error codes read, and they have returned ed with the following: P0102 - Mass airflow sensor (G70): signal too low: P0102 sporadic - no fault type identified P1290 - Coolant Temp Sensor at radiator outlet (G83): signal too small - P1290 P1137 - Fuel trim: bank 1 (add): system too rich: P1137 - static - no fault type identified And P1857 - 18265 - Load signal: error message from ECU: P1857 - intermittent Also this one without error code: 01542 - Yaw rate sensor (G202)  - sporadic - implausible signal   I am assuming/hoping there's a problem which is causing a bit of a knock on effect with these codes, and hopefully one problem to fix.
  • Ford Focus Mk2 1.8 Sport - Ford Focus Mk2 1.8 Idle/running issue 3 Sep 2016 (Forum)
When warm the car does seem to run ok, but there is still a very slight hesitation when accelerating hard. So far I have done the following. Changed the spark plugs, read the ECU to see if there are any codes. None were found.   I have checked around all of the hoses and I couldn't find any obvious air leaks I have also hooked the car up to Torque, the Lambda voltage is around 0.7v (RMS I think), the coolant temp sensor seems to work ok, as does the ambient air temp sensor.
  • Ford Focus - Validity of driveway diagnosis vs dealer? 12 Feb 2016 (Forum)
Thing is:   EOBD code readers are just reading fault codes from the ECU and transponding them into readable format, no?  So how come Ford's meters can read more deeply that the ones that mobile mechanics use, and if Ford's diagnostic tools really are more intensive than proprietary ones (this is a Sealey), then why on earth didn't they find the underlying fault in December?
  • Ford Focus - Rattling noise 28 Aug 2015 (Forum)
So far I have changed: Engine (the old one was using a lot of oil so I replaced it for a well maintained low mileage unit) CAT (had the original fitted so thought I would replace this) Up-stream (pre-cat) lambda sensor Spark plugs, leads and Coil pack (all genuine Ford) MAP sensor CHT sensor Knock sensor Fuel vaporizer ECU Fuel Filter Fuel pressure regulator PCV valve and breather pipes I have tried running the car on higher octane fuel and it made no difference.
  • Ford Focus MkII - Lambda + throttle connection ? 12 Jun 2015 (Forum)
HT leads replaced too, no avail. Doesn´t anyone have an experience with that or any clue, please? Could a problem be in ECU? Thank you very much and greetings from Czechia.
  • peugeot 306 hdi dt (99) - fuel problem, starting and running 4 Jun 2015 (Forum)
To date i"ve tried changing the fuel filter, changed the lifter pump in the tank, cracked my injector pipes to see if there working, they are. checked the timing, all good,  plugged it into a computer, the reading came back that " the fuel pump relay was malfunctioning". I"ve changed this (located behing the ecu) and still no joy. I"ve also checked the wiring for brakes or wear and tear. Where i have found anything, I"ve securally taped and joined the wires. I"ve read on quite a few forums that this seems to be a reacuring problem with the hdi, but i cant find anyone who has actually been able to fix it.

All ancillaries including injector rail, camshaft pulley etc were pulled from the old block as they were all in perfect order and didnt wanna mess up the ECU etc.. Now the block is in all connected up.. no spare sensors hanging blah blah blah.. My problem is we cannot get a spark to the valves.. Ive checked the earthing connections, replaced the Vauxhall Meriva - Easytronic Gearbox "F" on dash HELP!! 6 Jul 2014 (Forum)
We bought the car for 2950 last year and will be paying off until next sept so as you can imagine this wasn't great news. Then I remembered that during my googling about the dreaded F I had seen something about ecu solutions that fix the existing actuator. Made my husband call back and the mechanic said that it could be an answer and would obviously be cheaper.     So the question I wanted to ask is how much is will cost for the mechanic to take the part out we will send it off and the mechanic will refit.
  • Volkswagen Golf IV 1.6 16V SE 2002 - Intermittent starting problems. "Fix" or sell? 10 May 2014 (Forum)
I have contacted my local vw garage who when pressed said that they could look at it (this would cost around £100+vat) and if at worst it was the ecu it would cost around £1000 to fix.  To be honest I would be happy to pay this if I was convinced it would  resolve it once and for all but there seems no guarantee of this and they do not seem too interested in helping.
  • Vectra Crank sensor error 9 May 2013 (Forum)
Started car again, no warning light and it drove fine for the next 5 motorway miles to work. Using the ever so technical paperclip I found that the ECU has stored a crank sensor error code (0335) however in my list of error codes acquired from http://www.topbuzz1.carenthusiasts.co.uk/info/fault_codes/fault_codes.htm there is another error code called Camshaft sensor (0340) which I do NOT have.
  • VW Bora 1999 2.0 petrol - VW Bora Petrol Cuts out after 15-20 mins 14 Feb 2013 (Forum)
Coil pack failed last year ..and it sort of degrades slowly with misfiring etc so discounting it :) Heres what I know .. The Maf sensor can be disconnected and the ECU ignores it and goes to its default. So tried it and the engine still runs, when I get it to cut out ..doesnt matter whether it is still connected or not as will not start, so not going to default. The temp sensor (there is possibly 2) ..2 pin and 4 pin, both can be disconnected and the car still runs, again like the MAF once i got it to cut out it doesnt restart whether it is still connected or not.
