• Vauxhall Zafira 2012 1.6 - Zafira Madness 27 Feb 2016 (Forum)
  We have taken it to 3 different garages including a Vauxhall dealer, however none of them can tell us the problem, the ECU has been tested and come back fine.  Is it possible the Astra engine was not compatible? The garage put some auxilliaries from our Zafira engine on to the Astra engine when they replaced it-is this ok?

  Hi there and thanks for looking  Where do I start lol well I have got a problem with the starting of my focus 1.8tdci we recently did the head gasket and had everything decoked (before I did all this I had a cold start issue) put it all back together and it would start right, it will start for 2 seconds then die so we noticed when started that the actuator start s up normal then goes straight to full open causing the car to die I then took the arm off the actuator and the car starts fine but and doesn't cut out now we have check the ecu for codes and there's nothing stored please help someone have eexperienced the same problem any thoughts will greatly be appreciated

  According to the Haynes manual the glow plugs on the turbo models are controlled by the injection system ecu. Could that be at fault? Thanks in anticipation of any help or advice!

    I have recently bought a 2011 relay from a citroen dealer, after buying it I organised a local security company to insttall an alarm for me as it didnt have one fitted, the alarm is an Autowatch 695,   When the installer was fitting it he couldnt get it to work and seemed to think there was something not right with the van's can bus, I returned the van to the dealer who said they checked the bsi for faults but only found something relating to a flat battery, The ecu was set to park mode so they changed it to customer mode and configered it for an alarm   after getting the van back the alarm installer tried to fit the alarm again but said it still won't work!!

  Hi I have taken my Fiat 500 into a garage today as the engine light and ECU warning light have been showing the past week but the car has been driving fine. They have done a diagnostic check and found codes P1220 and C1221 which relate to the 'throttle position sensor' and 'intermittant throttle issue'.

  Hi my Renault has a bad misfire /hesitation as soon as it warms up ( it starts and ticks over fine ) had local garage check it over with analyser and it said rear lambda sensor fault..ok got one off ebay £25.00 fitted it still same problem..had garage re check it came up with same fault ( was advised to buy better quality sensor ) purchased another sensor fitted it still same problem..got garage to check again and it is coming up as rear lambda sensor fault ..not sure what to do now thinking maybe wiring fault from sensor to ecu ! if wiring is intermitant open or short circuit would analyser think that the sensor is the problem....any help would be great...thanks.

  The car starts, idles and runs well other than the above problem. I understand this is a full 'fly by wire' system where the throttle plate is motorised from the ECU. Could this problem be software related, electrical or dirty/gummed-up throttle body? The fault was reported at the last service but the dealer said 'no fault found - it's OK'. Any ideas greatfully received prior to returning to the dealer.

  Hello all, I have a rather confusing fault with a Micra.. The ECU went pop recently and after having it reconditioned the car drove fine for about 5 miles before the engine light came on and it went into limp home mode. Since then I've replaced the throttle pedal (fly-by-wire) and throttle body, re-synced them up but still to no avail!

  So far I've been going crazy haha.all fuel pressure, injectors working fine, u can see all the engine wanting to work but no fire, also changed ecu set, coded injectors, changed engine fuel wiring harness, crank/cam, mass air flow, I'm guessing wiring fault inside the car somwhere, anyone point me in a good direction? Thanks

  hi ,ive had a problem a couple of months ago with the acelerator pedal  the,rac man said it looks like the pedal was faulty ,as it didnt rev up .we put a second hand pedal on and it worked fine .then the problem came back again .so change the pedal again .it was fine for a few days now it goes in to limp mode .if i take the earth off the battery it most times will drive fine for the of the day .do the pedals need to be the same ,the second hand unit have been off the earlier 307 2.0 lt hdi.i took it to the peugeot dealer ,they told me there was too many fault codes on the ecu and it would cost more than the car is worth .  ..any advise .thanks ray.

  I bought a new engine for it which was from a late corsa b. I have swapped all the sensors, wiring and ecu over and fit the new engine into the car. Since then I have been having no end of trouble trying to get it started. The car turns over fine, it's getting fuel and the plugs are sparking although the spark seems quite weak.

  D4 is flashing on all the time which I need to do a paperclip trick and read the codes - does anyone have a link for this please? Also both front windows not working. Checked the fuse box and the fuse for ECU was blown. Replaced this and all dashboard lights come on with no keys in the car. Also when you start it and remove the keys, the engine keeps running. If I take the fuse out, the car runs fine and the keys turn the engine off etc.. but still have D4 flashing.

  Chugged to my local garage (we have a couple of awesome non franchised repairers where I live) who identified the problem immediately. Alas with one dead coil it could not be replaced just itself without the ECU taking an outright dislike to it! All four were replaced and it now runs like new. Question: Why can't just the one be replaced and is this a problem on all cars nowadays? They were originally replaced under warranty so have probably only lasted 60k miles.
• Mazda 5 - Mazda DPF oil return to sump 8 Jan 2012 (Forum)
    Should the engine be switched off mid way through the process it dumps the diesel into the oil sump. I know I have seen some companies who will remove DPF's and reprogram the ECU, ours doesnt seem to present too many problems with the exception of the sump oil level meaning an intermediate oil change is required between services. I presume a pipe goes from the filter unit back to the sump.

    It says "connect diagnostic signal to GND" - I presume GND is the earth wire coming from the parking sensors ECU but I'm not sure what the 'diagnostic signal' is - would it just be a simple 12v live or is it more than that ?

  I tried again, turned the engine on and it was going up and down - then again, started going up by its self. I've tried disconnecting the battery, i.e. partially resetting the ecu but with no joy. I am really worried to drive the car to work tomorrow so any of you late sleepers who can reply i would really appreciate any help. Many thanks.

  The fault turned out to be a bad connection in the multi plug connector, this lies directly behind the battery just to the left of the ecu. There is also another multi plug just below this one, I also cleaned the connectors in this as well. I used the wife's emery board as both connectors have male pins as opposed to male female, bit of a strange set up but there you go.

  I got the injectors changed (€1000) but this did nothing for the smoke, although the engine did run a tad smoother. The EGR valve has been checked and cleaned and nothing else is showing on the the ECU fault register. Come MOT time I put £5 of petrol into the tank and the smoke temporarily disappears. As the car has been performing fine for the last 3 years with this problem I'm wary of tackling anything big on it.

  I don't know where to go with this now.My Diagnostic suggested getting a Auto Electrician to check out the stretch of cable that goes from the Temperature Sensor to the ECU be checked for breaks or damage to the cable. Anyone got any suggestions or past experiences with this problem please.I'm fast running out of money,patience and the will to live!!!!

  I suspect the fault lies in the high pressure pump but im unsure if its the mechanical part of the pump or the ecu part of the pump? sureley its mechanicly fine if it supplies good pressure to number 2?. Ive found a company that repaires the control units on these pumps so if thats the problem it would make it alot cheaper for me.
