    .  Overall performance in all cold conditions – not just snow – has been improved over the old tyre thanks to a new tyre compound, which uses more silica than previously to make it more flexible at lower temperatures. Michelin is keen to point out that most drivers tend to drive on dry roads even in winter months, and that the latest Alpin 5 tyre is designed for these conditions as much as it is designed for wet and snow.

    For the second Concours of Elegance, 61 of the world’s rarest motor cars – many of them never seen before in this country – graced the gardens of 300-year old Royal palace Marlborough House, and drove through London. Lead by Royal patron HRH Prince Michael of Kent driving the 1933 Napier-Railton 24 litre Special, and with the oldest dating from 1907, nearly all of the cars in the Concours were driven - in a spectacular convoy from Buckingham Palace down The Mall - by their owners into the gardens on the opening morning.

    A Jaguar E-type Series 1 is going to up for sale at Historics' auction at Brooklands on 1 June, and so confident is the seller in the quality of its restoration, it's being offered with a 12-month unconditional guarantee. The left-hand drive example, which is one of the last S1s to leave the Browns Lane, Coventry factory carries a top-end estimate of £110,000-130,000. Historics says that the car 'is better today than when it was built', and it has undergone a two-year, nut and bolt restoration in California in 2010.

    The former manages 58.9mpg and 109g/km of CO2, and the latter delivers 56.5mpg and CO2 of 114g/km, figures that would better fit a diesel engine than a petrol. Ford says that the three-cylinder engine is refined and delivers “the driving performance that customers have come to expect from Ford.” Astoundingly, Ford claims that the engine block fits on an A4 sheet of paper, but despite its size and emissions it delivers 170Nm of torque, or 200Nm with overboost, with peak torque available from 1400rpm right through to 4500rpm.

    The offers - available on selected Jazz, Civic and Insight models - include customer savings on the OTR price (as much as £1,425 off some cars), three years' complimentary servicing, three years' free road tax, plus a range of competitive finance options. It means customers could drive away with a new Jazz from £9,995, or a Civic 1.4 Type S from £13,995 - or even an Insight for just £14,995, making it by far the lowest price hybrid on the market. Each car then comes with free Honda servicing for three years, plus the road tax is already paid for the period.
