  • New reverse switch problem - Vaux Astra 30 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Hi, Ive just fitted a new reverse switch to my 92 Astra Merit 1.4 petrol. I unscrewed the old one, screwed in the new one, connected the lead and then the car wouldnt start! I then put the old one back in and the car still wont start - am I just unlucky and something else is wrong, or am I forgetting to do something as I really dont know that much about cars!
  • BMW 518 Cat Pipe Poss Weld? 29 Jul 2003 (Forum)
My '93 L reg BMW 518 has just been serviced by a local specialist who advised me that the down pipe leading into the catalytic convertor has split, is blowing slightly and therefore needs replacing. They are quoting £550 + Vat BMW or £350 + Vat 'pattern part' does anyone know if I can get this welded instead and if not what should I go for as I intend to keep the car another 5 years?
  • Xantia alarm 30 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Xantia diy muppet is back. Got glow plugs to change. Step 1 disconnect battery -ve lead. The alarm goes off. I can't shut it off, the key fob does nothing, the central locking still works, turning the key in the lock works but nothing shuts the god**mn alarm off. Reconnecting the battery just makes it louder.
  • Rover 214 intermittant fault 1 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Today it wouldn't start from cold ( unusual, as it is more problematic while half warm) and the battery went down. I got it going with jump leads and a shot of easy start, but I haven't cured the fault. Any ideas ? Gratefully received .
  • Mazda 323 23 Oct 2002 (Forum)
But what is strange is that after stopping and turning off engine for 10 mins then starting up again the problem is not there. I guess that its the damp weather affecting the leads or distributor cap but wondered if I can use anything to stop this from happening. Any ideas?

  • Golf GTI lumpy idle 17 Oct 2001 (Forum)
My 1989 Golf GTI 8V (digifant injection) has always had a slightly lumpy idle, but recently things have got worse. The lumpiness is felt throughout the car. I have changed the plugs, leads, cap, rotor arm, cleaned out the valve on top of the engine, cleaned the idle screw all to no avail. Does anybody have any ideas, does the whole intake system need a clean? Its all quite black inside.

  • Mazda 6 Tourer - Battery Charging in Situ with i-Eloop 14 Sep 2021 (Forum)
Replacement Q85 batteries are expensive and I don’t much fancy having to replace one because it got damaged by being discharged too much. The CT5 charger came with a set of pigtail leads with eyelets that could be connected up across the battery to allow for quick connection to the charger and for trickle charging/keeping topped up without having to disconnect it. However I have not been able to successfully charge the battery in situ using these pigtail leads.
