  • Why is the tax rate so high for imported cars? 28 Mar 2015 (Ask HJ)
I am considering buying a 2002 (Japanese) imported Honda Insight. The garage tells me the road tax is around £130 even though the CO2 emission is less...
  • Can I get an age-related number plate for an imported classic car? 21 Sep 2013 (Ask HJ)
Do you know, if I imported a classic car say 1965 or 1966 manufacture, would I get a 'C' or a 'D' registration plate in this country? Or would it be one...
  • Why is there no 2.4-litre CR-V in the UK? 8 Sep 2012 (Ask HJ)
Any clues as to why Honda has chosen not to offer the CR-V with the 2.4Litre or even the American 2.5Litre option?
  • Insuring Grey Import on agreed Value Policy 18 Apr 2008 (Forum)
The renewal policy is also a good bit more expensive than in previous years. Does anyone know of any other insurers I can try who will insure grey imports possibly on an agreed value basis. Thx !
  • "import" car. 30 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Now, the car has 1 previous owner (I would be the third) it all looks excellent until I ring bmw, who say the car is an import. I investigate further and it turns out a dealer in Germany had sold the car to a UK induvidual based in scotland, this car then found its way to a private dealer in scotland and the car was sold to an induvidual in London.
  • Golf 1.6se 10 Feb 2003 (Forum)
I've got the above (March 2002), an import to UK spec with 6000 miles on the clock in metallic paint. Any ideas on what I could sell it for and should I focus on the private buyer? I'm not too sure on what I should ask for it as it's an import.
  • Motorhome - Importing from Italy 26 Sep 2020 (Forum)
Will the Italian MOT be OK for when I get it off the ferry? Can I get it insured when it's registered in Italy on the promise I'll register it as imported when I get to the UK? Thanks in advance.
  • Volkswagen Passat - Import to UK - Xenon Headlights requirements 8 Jul 2015 (Forum)
Hi all, I am importing my 2007 VW Passat 3.2L 4M into the UK. I currently have Xenon Headlights, does anyone know if there is a requirement to adjust the beam on those headlights so they are UK compliant.  Because the car is less than 10 years old, putting light deflectors is not sufficient for DVLA.
  • Grey Import Goodyear Tyres 12 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I bought two goodyear f1 tryes yesterday from a well known supplier, i however became a bit suspicious when i noticed they were made in thailand, as i remember there being issues in the past with grey imports from thailand, i contacted goodyears technical dept in birmingham who confirmed F1 tyres manufactured in thailand should not be used in the uk due to the compound being unsuitable for uk conditions, and that the only F1 tyres that should be on the market here are tyres manufactured in germany, i have contacted the supplier and hopefully the issue will be resolved, be warned Slight tweak to subject header
  • First MoT 12 Feb 2006 (Forum)
When he enquired of the DVLA when the first MoT was due he got the answer of '3rd birthday of UK registration'. Is this correct? Is it because it was viewed as a 'new' car when imported into the UK, despite the 3 month delay? Logic says it should be the date of of first use that counts, or what is to stop you doing a world tour before returning to the UK with a personal import?
  • Subaru Impreza Import remapping 24 Jan 2004 (Forum)
A friend of mine has bought himself a 96 Import impreza STI. These in japan, run on RON 100 unleaded fuel, the nearest we have is RON 97 unleaded. He has been advised against octane boosters as these in time will damage the cat and don't really do alot.
  • Imports 4 Apr 2002 (Forum)
Whoops! I made a mistake in my query about imports in my message dated 2nd April. I quoted Onesearch when I should have said that I had received a quote from a firm called www.oneswoop.com Their spec is exactly the same as a car purchased in this country and I would save obout £2,360.

  • Is GPS important when buying a dashcam? 23 Apr 2019 (Ask HJ)

  • Japanese/English Manuals 29 Apr 2001 (Forum)
Hello, Can anyone help with any information on the availability of English (worded) manuals for imported Japanese vehicles. Would anyone know if an English version of the handbook for an imported Japanese Toyota Townace is available anywhere or, should I start a night school language course ?
  • Toyota Imports 12 Nov 2001 (Forum)
Trade Sales have sent me the Belgian Type Approval Certificate which shows it to be 167 G/KM. I have spoken to Toyota UK who confirm that all RHD cars imported to Europe have the same specification engine; but they refuse to get involved. I expect everyone else who has imported a Yaris from Belgium - where most come from - has a similar problem. It could apply to other makes and models as well.
  • Buying imports from Channel Islands 25 Jul 2008 (Forum)
I'm very tempted to buy a car from a dealer who imports 'nearly new' cars (just a few months old) from the Channel Islands. They are apparently used mainly as hire cars and have just a few thou miles on the clock, they come with the balance of the manufacturers warranty (so usually about 2 to 2.5 years) and the dealer registers and supplies UK plates.
  • Skoda Fabia (2000 - 2007) - Importing my LHD car 1 Dec 2007 (Forum)
From the DVLA website, I see that if I wish to permanently import my LHD Skoda Fabia 1.9 tdi, I will have to change the headlights and speedometer. Has anyone any suggestions about the best & cheapest way to go about this? From a financial point of view, I think my car, 6 years old but in excellent condition, would be difficult to replace with an equivalent in the UK were I to sell it in Spain.
