  • Starting probs 25 Dec 2002 (Forum)
Try again - click whirr Try again this time pressing accelerator - click whirr And again - click whirr Finally try again - this time flooring the accelerator right into the carpet - car starts fine - in fact if I then turn it off straightaway I can immediately restart it no bother.. Anyway - I got the battery checked out (car is about 5.5 yrs old) and it was a bit ropey so I got a new one and I'll see if that fixes the problem - question is do the starting probs sound battery related - why would flooring the accelerator help?

  • Please suggest a good air pump 17 Sep 2007 (Forum)
For pumping air in the tyres. In a reasonable cost. How good are the battery operated ones? Or the foot operated pumps will be better? Thanx
  • Porsche Cayenne - Black Box blocked my isolation switch 17 Jul 2023 (Forum)
I recently bought a 2004 Cayenne Turbo S, and the previous owner had fitted an isolation switch as he didn't like the battery drain. I haven't been able to get it removed yet, my mechanic is doing that for me shortly. However, after installing the black box last Thursday, by Friday it had completely drained the battery.
  • Daihatsu Skywing (with stupid owner) - Mains Damage To Car Electrical System 21 Apr 2020 (Forum)
Fortunately this is an old car and AFAIK that (and a clock) is the only electronics on board, Might the battery have survived? Whatever it was that tripped or fuzed by design or (worst case) melted by accident did so sharpish and the lead was only warmish to the touch.
  • Renault Zoe and similar - Electric Car ownership 25 Sep 2019 (Forum)
The motor industry is misrepresenting the reality of ownership of an EV especially smaller cars. The purchase price is manipulated by taking the battery out and placing it on lease. However when you come to sell the only buyers available are the brand dealer or private. WBAC and the like wont touch it neither will general garages or other brand dealers as they get stuck with the battery lease cost until they sell it.
  • BMW 3 Series Touring - Electrical issues caused by Third party Repair 20 Feb 2017 (Forum)
I had a rear parking sensor fitted almost 3 years ago by a local Auto Electrician and had no problems until last week. I broke down in the City Centre due to an Electrical Fault caused by water pooling in the rear battery compartment. Cabling (of the stop/start) had eroded due to 3" of water which had entered over time through the access hole above the wheel arch. The original grommet (seal) was found on top of the battery which had not been cut or re-fitted by the Auto Electrician after he had fed the rear parking sensor cable.
  • MK4 VW Golf GTI - persistent flat battery 27 Oct 2016 (Forum)
Help or ideas would be useful - i am beginning to think that although quite new it really is the battery.During charging/attempting to charge i have disconnected the battery from the car electrical circuits.
  • berlingo 2.0 hdi 2004 - intermittent fault. 2 Apr 2016 (Forum)
it runs great, quite pokey for a diesel, no problems at all except it's a poor starter in winter, but i've just fitted a very heavy duty battery (had to midify the battery tray and re-locate a few things! this problem has existed for a few years (long before battery change). basically.. drive to somewhere, if engine not cold before starting, it starts fine but after a few revs, behaves like no fuel reaching engine and then is ok but goes into limp mode, sometimes reset after a few restarts, sometimes not.
  • Volvo V60 - Heater failure. Warranty 12 Feb 2015 (Forum)
Why would a fan (electric motor) fail after only 3 years (on a Volvo!) 4.  Why the “low  battery” warning? Could a failed fan cause a discharge if the car is “switched off”? 5.  The car is 5 months over the 3 year Volvo warranty. What charges am I in for?!
  • Ford Focus 1.6 Petrol 02 plate - Poor connection on fuel pump 7 Jan 2015 (Forum)
The history: 1 month ago started fine, went to work, parked up for a few hours, went back to car, wouldn't start. AA managed to bump start it out of the multi story car a park then diagnosed battery required replacing. Replaced battery same day, all seemed fine for a further 2 weeks. Then similar thing, car was parked up for a couple of hours, then wouldn't start. AA checked battery, all good there, eventually got it started by applying pressure to the fuel pump feed plug under the rear seats.
  • X Type 2.0d 2005 - Help 16 Feb 2013 (Forum)

  • Vauxhall Corsa 2003 1.2 - CD/radio completely blank 18 Oct 2012 (Forum)
Hi All, A friend of mine came home from holiday last week to find the battery flat on her Corsa. Battery was removed, charged and returned and now car is fully functioning. However she tried the CD only to find it wouldn't work (didn't realise it would need re-coding). After fiddling with it for some time it went from -SAFE- to blank. you switch the unit on and it's like its dead.
  • Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 99 1.25 Airbag light stays on 2 Sep 2012 (Forum)
Took it to a mechanic mate tonight who did a diagnostic check and it came up as a fault in the airbag module. He also found a voltage drop of almost 4 volts between the battery and the module which he thinks could be causing the airbag module to think it has a fault. I think the battery voltage with the engine running was 14.2 and the voltage at the module was 10.4 or thereabouts.
  • Mrk 3 golf - electrical problems 4 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Car was fine for a couple of months then recently driving one day on comes the oil light and total loss of the rev counter and speedo. drove it untill the complete dash failed and the car cut out due to battery going flat. When it happens my fan heater and window wipers run slow. After recharging my battery attemped the journey home only to find that about a mile from my house when i took off from a set of traffic lights and was above 20 mph everything started to work again only to fail once i was at traffic lights.
  • Mazda 626 - Mazda 626 93 V6 turn key, click-k-k-k under dash 2 Sep 2010 (Forum)
The battery was replaced after the bad winter 2 months ago. Battery 12.92V after just shutting off tonight, restarted it 3 times without problem. Anyone recognise this? Is this a bad main relay or the factory alarm?
  • Volkswagen T4 Caravelle (1994 - 2003) - 94 2.4 poor starting 1 Feb 2010 (Forum)
or could it be the battery? none of which have been replaced in the time ive had it,and the plugs are possibly original knowing the previous owner. the van is now around 125,000 miles so it's still got lots of life in it yet and i'd like to be able to rely on it!
