  Posting on behalf of an enthusiast without Internet access... 1989 BX DTR turbo diesel hatch in white. One owner from new & only selling as wife wants a new Toyota Yaris. Full history, always garaged, a couple a supermarket type dings but otherwise good, MOT to Jan 2004, tax June 2003, towbar fitted but only used a few times for a light boat.

  I'm looking to get rid of my 2005 c220 coupe mainly due to its poor economy. Whilst looking around a car supermarket my eye was taken by a Citroen DS3. I have always been very anti French cars but this car was stunning so I decided to have a test drive. The 1.6 diesel 110bhp drove like a dream.   The sales guy told me not to worry about my driving style or supermarket diesel, contrary to everything I've read on this and other sites about modern diesel engines. My daily commute is 45 miles round trip mostly on the motorway with around 20% of that within 30/40 mph zones.

  My wife nor my garage can discern my problem!!! In desperation I changed from filling up with diesel at my local Supermarket to a BP station, putting 2/3 tank of regular diesel to fill up. Almost immediately the car is running smoother, not quite as well as 3 months ago, but is this because I still had 1/3 of a tank of previous fuel.

  Rip Off Britain drew attention to the growing problem of water contamination in fuel, both petrol and diesel. Two cases were highlighted , both took place at Supermarkets but they said it could have happened elsewhere. The problem seems to be have been made worse following the introduction of bio in the fuel which causes a by product of water when it mixes with fuel.

  I have read articles about the quality of various brands of fuel and the whys and wherefores of using the premium versions of some brands, (shell optimax, bp premium, etc) but I have not seen reference to JET fuel brand. I presume that this is better than supermarket fuel as it contains some additives, but can anyone tell me whether this is equal or better than shell, bp, texaco ? I drive a '04 Freelander TD4, and whilst I wish to use 'good' fuel, there is a limit to my benevolence, (having last week paid BP £ 1.01 per litre as opposed to 95.9 for 'normal' diesel and I see 94.9p for petrol.

  On Saturday I was on ye olde booze cruise to Calais at the Citie d'Europe shopping mall. Whilst wheeling my shopping trolley around the Carrefour supermarket I saw that they sold all sorts of branded motor oils at non-discount prices that were still cheaper than Halfords so-called '20% discount'. Example: Castrol Semi synthetic Diesel, 4.5 L: Halfords 20% discount=£17.65 (usual price £22.00).

  No VED and Classic Car insurance and little depreciation appeals, as does not having to worry about dents in Supermarket car parks. There's a confusing amount of websites devoted to them, any suggestions? or do you go straight to a dealer (as exists for Morris Minor's for example). Does it make much difference if you get a petrol or diesel?
